Horrors!
I had to paint a self-portrait for the "About the artist' bit at the back of the book.
I haven't painted a self-portrait since I was 17, I don't enjoy portraits, as I'm often heard saying; " I really struggle to get them to look like THEM".

I used a photo from when I had a lot more hair earlier in the year as a source image - then added to it so I don't scare the children and I look a bit friendlier.
I also took a bit of artistic licence with the old 'beak'.

I think that's me done for painting people that look like themselves now, as this was attempt 3, it's still not as I'd want it, but I was thoroughly fed up with myself, both the painted me & artist me by the time I finished her last night, I'm glad to get shot of her off the drawing board!
I'm not showing you the first version, I don't think my self-esteem can handle it. 😂

Did you know that Neapolitan ice cream was originally based on desserts from Naples, hence the name- and was green (pistachio), white (vanilla) and red (Cherry).
When it became popular in the USA the flavours were changed to more 'familiar' and cheaper to produce flavours as we know them now of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry.
The original flavours were pretty much phased out by the early 80's with Lyons Maid being one of the last commercial manufacturers in the UK still making the original Italian flag neapolitan until the mid 80's.
This is why in some illustrated books such as this Ladybird book illustrated by Kenneth Innes in 1967 show a rather odd- to modern eyes- ice cream selection.
Illustrated books are often fascinating snippets of social history.

Many, many, many hours went into this one.
I've definitely peaked now.
Cole Hawlings with his wondrous Box of Delights.
Layers of Watercolour, alcohol pens, watercolour pencils, coloured pencils, acrylic paint pen and finally white gel pen for the highlights.
The nose is a bit big, I had to draw his mouth closed as I couldn't quite get his little smile right, but overall I'm really pleased with this portrait.
I'll be taking it to the printers with me with my other new BOD designs for Christmas cards available again soon.

The Waterfall Boy played by Jason Kemp, from BBC children's television show 'The Box of Delights'.
This is probably my best work ever.
I'm really pleased with him.
Watercolour paint, watercolour pencils, coloured pencils, and alcohol pens.
He took 14 hours.

I am working on creating my own brand colouring book. (*Yikes)
Would any colourists like to be my guinea-pigs/ beta testers to try some of them out (I can send them digitally as I'm scanning in the finished drawings or get them printed for you).
There's varying levels of ability, from a simple 'cosy' style to more complex detailed pages.
Not really aimed at young children, but more for ages 13yrs to the grave!
The theme is mostly fantasy based.
Please let me know in the comments.

A throwback to three years ago when I painted my hallway.

Disney's animated Robin Hood 1973.
50 labour-intensive uncomfortable hours from freehand pencil drawings to final brushstrokes. ( Mostly because of the awkwardness of the stairs, and paint layering plus painting in the background green colour).
There are some details I'd change if I could do it again and that mandolin neck is wonky!
But overall I'm pretty pleased with it. Difficult to get it's real colours as the hallway is quite dark even when lit, so the blended layers seem quite stark on camera when in life they are not, but you get the gist.
