I wont lie, the garden project I started has been a mammoth task and one of the most physically exhausting things I’ve ever done (and I completed a Hyrox earlier this year…). So when my window cleaner Mike offered to help me lay the slate today because he “had a spare hour” I nearly cried with gratitude. And thanks to his help I’m close to finishing. I just need to finish filling the planters with soil, apply the rust accelerator (because I’m too impatient to wait for them to rust naturally), and then plant them up. Oh and decide which of my many garden chairs I’m going to place next to the fire pit. So yeah, almost finished 😂

I of all people should know that if you get paint mixed rather than buying the original colour you’ll not get the exact same colour again unless you get the identical brand, base colour and tin size. But we don’t always practice what we preach which is why me and Kim spent yesterday repainting the summerhouse interior after I’d touched in around the new black metal doors and windows in a lighter shade…. 🙄 It did however give me an excuse to make a few little decor changes. I’ve had a general declutter, and removed all the bright blue items, replacing them with more rust and terracotta tones. The blue pendant lights are now black and I’ve added more black accents. So it still has that rustic Scandi / Navajo vibe but with a little contemporary uplift. The ceramic swallows I bought in Spain last month now look perfect in there, as do the wall hung framed plant stands which I bought on Amazon last night! 😂

Temperatures are a little lower than most of the country here in Cumbria and it’s a lot wetter, so our gardens are still lush and green. Which makes my rusted metal garden decor stand out beautifully 🧡

Crikey it’s an early start this morning…. Luckily it wasn’t a late one last night. We did sample the cocktails and tacos on Azotea’s fabulous rooftop terrace though. Beautiful decor inside and out, but it did leave me wondering just how many nights in a year they actually got to use the outside spaces, it is Yorkshire after all and not Yucotan! 😂 (ps the pork carnitas with spicy pineapple habanero were 😋)

One of the upsides of living so far from any airport is that when you have an early flight to catch you sometimes get a wee city break the night before. Loving our canal side hotel in Leeds with its plush midnight blue, blush pink and gold decor.

I only have wood and stone floors at home and for years I’ve been wanting my rugs and runners professionally cleaning but couldn’t find a company that had experience of cleaning authentic Persian rugs that I felt I could trust. Then I saw my neighbours had Rayson’s Carpet Cleaning in so I stopped for a chat when I was passing, and that short conversation gave me the confidence they could do the job, and they did. All 12 rugs and both staircase runners cleaned in a morning, we took most outside to dry in the sun and those that couldn’t be moved were bone dry in 48hrs. This also gave me the motivation to refurb the old antique brass stair rods on the bedroom staircase, which had discoloured and lost their finish. It would have been +£300 to replace them, but for the price of 2 cans of matt black spray paint and some screws they look like new again 👍

It’s been a physically exhausting week. I decided a few months ago to remove a section of my lawn to make it easier for a robot mower if I decide to purchase one. Two hours into digging I started to question my decision and almost called the landscapers….. But I persevered and this afternoon I bagged the last of 64 bags for my neighbour (who is re-turfing a section of their garden) to collect. I still need to remove a layer of top soil and lay the membrane before the slate chips go down, but at least now I can see the space and have started using AI to help me decide how many planters I want, and what sizes, and also whether to add stepping stones or not. I’m thinking lots of corten steel to tie in with the fireplace on the new patio 🤔 in the meantime tho, it’s wine time!

P.S. Big up to Louise Benn my trainer and the owner of The Showing up Club. If it hadn’t been for her strength training classes I’d never even have attempted never mind completed such a mammoth task on my own 💪

I have a lovely piece of furniture that needs a new home. It’s an antique gentleman’s wardrobe that isn’t as deep as a standard wardrobe. It’s been great in my guest bedroom, and would also be ideal for a children’s bedroom or as a hall coat cupboard. Dimensions are deep 44cm, wide 91cm and height 179cm. Price is £60.
