Another transformational project handed over for this week - Phase 01 refurbishment of The Great Western Hotel in Newquay focusing on the 26 bedroom Trenarren Wing.

A 12-week project with focusing on the full internal and external refurbishment of this hotel wing. A new interior concept inspired by the history of the surfboard and seaside nostalgia pioneered by Great Western Railways' - "Cornish Riviera Express" in the early 1900's. This has injected new life into the bedrooms and en-suites and has been further complimented by artwork and bric-a-brac by @ Trading Spaces.

Phase 02 will see us tackle a further 40 bedrooms and circulation areas in the main building - watch this space!

A recent carpet designed by KDPA in collaboration with for a pub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. This design took inspiration from the local history surrounding the pub, including Marlow's rich rowing heritage, the Buckinghamshire crown collared Swan, the knurled thimbles by local entrepreneur and inventor; John Lofting and Marlow suspension bridge. We were keen to start with a traditional arts & crafts style pattern typical of the Victorian period and insert modern quirks specific to the site. A rowing boat can be seen gliding through the pattern with ripples forming in its wake. Marlow suspension bridge can be spotted in the background texture, while the Buckinghamshire Swan can be seen in flight with its chained crown swaying in the wind. Knurled thimbles have been inserted as a nod to their C17th creator - local businessman John Lofting. Rumour has it there's one rowing boat that's missing two rowers...... why don't you visit and see if you can spot it!

The Albany Palace, Trowbridge, Wiltshire

A former Victorian cinema KDPA sought to bring back to life some of the glamour and imagination associated with The Albany Palace when extending and re-designing this popular pub in the picturesque town of Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Extending the pub into a neighbouring plot provided the opportunity to form a characterful courtyard garden overlooked by an impressive double height space for diners. Using local stone and traditional construction methods KDPA designed a walled garden that respected the historical surroundings whilst offering patrons a picturesque environment in which to drink and dine in the finest tradition of the pub garden.

In part of its re-design of the original pub KDPA introduced a new bar with detailed panelling and tall brass light fittings referencing the sense of occasion that the original Victorian foyer would have created. The prominent position of the new bar also served as a visual reference point looking over an impressive high ceilinged open plan dining area, re-designed to act as a unified and vibrant social dining space with a renewed sense of history and purpose!

🤩 A Super Swift Outcome 🤩

Here at KDPA we are delighted to share with you all some ongoing project news!
At this site it became apparent that in addition to developing the building we also needed to preserve and enhance biodiversity in the local area.
We sought support from a wonderful local charity Bisham nest box group BNBG.
This fabulous charity make nest boxes for a small donation.
These have now been installed on site & it would appear the local habitat are already enjoying the use of their new facilities!
