‘The Fabric Shop’ stores at Worthing and Burgess Hill are now permanently closed.

During the last month we have been overwhelmed by all of the kind and supportive messages we have received, both online and in person, from our customers and the wider communities of Worthing and Burgess Hill.

It has been a difficult few weeks for us to close our family business but we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, new and old, for their loyalty, custom and support over our three decades of trading.

Despite our sadness that The Fabric Shop has now closed we remain proud of our years serving the local community.

We are so sad to be sharing this news with you. After more than 30 years as a family business we are closing our doors.

We would like to send heartfelt thanks to all of our customers past and present for your custom, support and creativity over the years.

Sadly, the unrelenting disruption caused by the Hemiko project, the overall lack of support for the town by Worthing Council and the increases to overheads imposed by the current government have impacted our business so much that it is not sustainable for us to continue.

We hope that we may get to see some of our customers in the coming days

It is with great sadness that we are having to close our stores. Namely our main store in Worthing and our smaller store in Burgess Hill.

The continuing increases to our overheads imposed by the current government and reduced support for business rates has impacted all businesses.

However, the unrelenting disruption caused by the Hemiko project to the town generally but particularly to the Chapel Road and High Street areas has caused a drastic reduction in customer numbers.

Due to this and our huge reduction in turnover over the last nine months means our business is unsustainable.

We would like to sincerely thank all our lovely staff and customers and we really fear for the future of Worthing town centre. In our experience once customers avoid an area due to disruption they do not easily return.

We are bewildered that Worthing Borough council could not foresee the scale of disruption to local businesses and the community at large and still don’t seem to.

As long standing Worthing residents we are sad to see the decline of the town generally. We feel that, sadly, there is no pride left in our town.

We are really upset by this whole situation.
