Passionate artist (both visual and auditory) and scientist, I began to pursue the world of watercolour and mixed media, as a way to relax and express the natural world around me. As a passionate artist (both visual and auditory) and scientist, I began to pursue the world of watercolour and mixed media, as a way to relax and express the natural world around me. I released my first children’s book,
“Macie Mouse and the Green Cellar Door”, which I wrote and illustrated digitally, and book of of poetry and lyrics, “Creative Expression” in 2016 as a mindful crafting experience. I continued to create over the next several years, experimenting with all types of media but couldn’t really find that, “tone” to express myself fully until I discovered watercolours and mixing them with other media to experiment and create ATC’s, still-life watercolours and mixed media art combined with poetic devices to stimulate and transcend the subjects inner values onto, and into, the viewer. I would have never described myself as a, “painter” or “artist” as such and my “go-to” in my youth was always music and singing. I learned instruments mainly by ear from a very early age; developing skills on the saxophone and violin, but when I needed to rise above the noise it was always singing, writing songs/poems or making things from anything I could scavenge, or grow, to help me feel like I was meant to be part of this world. I did not come from a wealthy background and pursuing a career in any of the artistic fields seemed unimaginable. I would spend my days as a youth climbing trees, building dens, reading wildlife books, go-karting down the street made from old pram wheels and anything considered rubbish then delving into nightlife, ecology and travel as I matured. This allowed me to experience life with spontaneity, kicking down walls and develop an admiration for the varieties of life around me. I worked in many different fields including singing, finance, ecology and eventually teaching alongside being a mum. My longing for pushing creative boundaries allowed me to meet, collaborate and create with some amazing people along the way, including my now husband Aaron Troughton who helped me to realise my true element. As an artist, I try to project a story from the subject rather than give a “perfect” replication. My journey taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and staying true to one’s unique vision.
