Prattware Roger Giles pepper pot, Staffordshire, 1830.

£350.00 www.philipcarrol.com
Staffordshire Prattware pottery Roger Giles pepper pot, c. 1830. This is possibly the most explicit of all the Roger Giles pepper pots I have seen, if you are offended, please do not view all of the images.
Modelled as the man sqatting down, to perform a function, and set upon a square base. His hat pierced, whilst the base has an aperture to receive the pepper.
Decorated in Pratt glazes.
Whilst Roger Giles advertised that he laid his own eggs, it is clear from this example, that not all of the ceramic examples, entirely reflected his claim. Rather, they are representative of the b***y nature of the humour enjoyed at the time.
Height – 12cm, 4 3/4”.
Condition – Chip to footrim. Otherwise in excellent condition. No restoration.
