We have a new, stripped-down website which includes a link to our Etsy store, details of the craft markets we will be at this year and the ability to contact us. The address is still the same and can be found in our profile.

During the COVID pandemic we were able to reach far more people online and had the time and energy to keep a dedicated website stocked with our fibre, yarn and finished products. Since then, and particularly over the last couple of years, sales have declined for a number of reasons. We have noticed this both online and in person at the craft fairs we regularly attend. We also don't have the time or skills to effectively market ourselves, which is required to make a standalone website worthwhile. Even if we did, our capacity to produce items is finite and we would struggle to meet the higher demand that marketing and social media presence would generate.

For these reasons we are reducing our online presence and going back to Etsy, still selling the same lovely hand-dyed fibres and yarns that you have been buying from us at craft fairs and from the website. Our website will still tell you where you can find us and will shortly have a link to our Etsy store, which you can also find in our profile and by searching for Somerset Wool Shed.

Thank you for continuing to support us and we look forward to seeing you at Lytes Cary Manor on Sunday 13th September.

I dyed a couple of hundred grams of combed Bluefaced Leicester sliver this afternoon and couldn't be more pleased with how each pot came out. Three colours were used in each pot, two the same and one different in each. I love how unpredictable the results are. They should be dry in about half an hour with the warmth and breeze so I may well be spinning one of them tomorrow! The sliver was combed by mill from fleeces from Somerset and the Highlands of Scotland, and is beautiful to work with.

We have added some newly-dyed Bluefaced Leicester fleece to the website in some lovely juicy colours: Apricot Mix and Lime Aqua. It's always a struggle to come up with names when each batch turns out differently, even when the same dyes are used. You can still get free shipping on all orders over £20 with the code WebBack.

Today has been a good day for dyeing Wensleydale and Bluefaced Leicester fleece, which is now outside drying. While waiting for them to cook I took the opportunity to sort some BFL curls that were washed a while ago, but which I hadn't got round to sorting through until now. More 10g packs have been added to the website, where you can still get free shipping on orders over £20 with the code WebBack.

If you have tried to reach our website recently you may have found that you can't reach it. This is related to a change in domain name supplier which seems to have resulted in the website losing its connection to the hosting service. We are working on it with the supplier and hope to have the site available again in the next 48 hours or so.

In the meantime here's some delicious 100% Bluefaced Leicester that I have dyed and spun. Having had a lot of BFL fleece lying around for quite a long time I had most of it combed into sliver last year by Rampisham Hill Farm & Mill, and it's gorgeous to use. We have been slowly working our way through the bags - only a couple more to go, which is still about 4kg!

It's too hot to knit, but the spinning wheel adds a pleasant draught around the knees and ankles. This is hand-dyed local Bluefaced Leicester and will be put towards some gloves when my hands aren't too sweaty and sticky.
