I made these butterflys as an experiment for a project - decorating with oxide, which went into the carved inlays. They looked a bit boring to be honest so I thought I would try gold wax to create a shimmering translucent effect. I think it's worked and a great improvement

I made this on a course with Rebecca Appleby Art at CLAYyorkshire where I have been learning so much. It's decorated with iron oxide and crystal glazes that are low firing -and then finished with gold wax. I was hoping to make a moon vase but got carried away with the experimentation....
I will be taking it to Cromford Mills on Sunday for a fantastic Northern Potters fair with lots of lovely potters

Am making peonies & poppies. I bought some peonies 10 days ago. They started bright pink but went white as they opened up. I have some poppies in my garden. I started with some simple sketches to familiarise myself with the shapes and form. This morning I came down to see the sketchbook covered with fallen petals. There is something really poignant about these flowers & fallen petals. I quite like the raw clay too but will glaze them. Hope they survive as they are very delicate. Have a lovely Sunday. The plants needed the rain today...
