IRefurb

IRefurb I reclaim old furniture & lighting from various sources. I then restore & repair them to sell on.

My main aim is to save as many examples of what I consider classic design, I repair and I restore forgotten family heirlooms for the next generation to appreciate. I repurpose these interesting items into something more useful or aesthetically pleasing to the eye, reclaiming as much as possible on my journey of creation. Whether its nails and screws from disassembled palettes along with the off-cu

ts of wood or shades, cabling, plugs and switches from old lamps. I never throw anything away and try to find uses for almost everything I find. My inspiration comes from the strangest of places and I enjoy every project or commission. I source materials from car-boots, clearance donations and local antiques and salvage yards, trying to save as much from land-fill as possible.

Restoration - Posing Lady - Art Deco Style - Desk Lamp

This beautiful Art Deco style desk lamp was dropped off at my workshop in dire need of some tender loving care.
It had a damaged carousel and was missing its shade because it had been broken beyond repair. Luckily for me i had a replacement vintage carousel and globe lampshade that fitted the base perfectly. Also with the addition of a new cable, bulb housing, plug and rocker switch, the desk lamp was looking as good as new in no time.

Let The Light In - Pop-Up Exhibition 2026
Aircon - Visual Heating Box - Desk Lamp £60

One of my more unique experiments, more just for fun following my inspiration to see where it leads me.
After reclaiming the plastic grate from the back of an old fridge-freezer, I decided to build a new box to house it in. Just to see what it would look like with light passing through it, I wired in a parallel circuit with two bulbs at either end for a more even spread of light. As the project continued, I realised it was reminiscent of an old Aircon unit, hence the name and the addition of the shaped ribbons on the front grate. I also decided to add the flickering light bulbs to generate a visual heat, but normal light bulbs work well too.

Featured Commission - Let The Light In - Pop-Up Exhibition 2026 - Leaf Blade Faux Plant - Desk Lamp

A botanical themed commission I featured in the exhibition. More inspired by available materials in this particular case. Wooden slats from an old Roman blind, which fitted perfectly into a reclaimed lamp frame I recently acquired. After reshaping the wooden slats, they became reminiscent of blades of grass, therefore the plant theme was the way forward with this one.

Copper Filament Glass Insulator - Desk Lamp £80

From the same collection of donated glass lids from sweets jars, this was the second experiment I came up with. This time using a simple piece of black plastic piping for the base and a little extra decoration using nuts, bolts, washers and a coiled piece of copper wire as a fake filament to finish off the design. I still have many more lids to use up, so keep an eye out for more similar lamp designs in the future.

Exploded Winding Tetrapod - Desk Lamp - £80

Second in the series of my experiments with disassembling old motors, I separated and suspended the metal winding plates with nuts & bolts to achieve the perfect industrial style cage for the LED filament light bulb. This time the space was large enough to house a standard size bulb.

Exploded Box Winding - Desk Lamp - £60

Third in the series of my experiments with disassembling old motors, I separated and suspended the metal winding plates with nuts & bolts to achieve the perfect industrial style cafe for this extra long LED filament light bulb. This time mounting them into wooden boxes, enabling the lamp to stand either way up.

Exploded Winding - Desk Lamp - £175 SOLD

Occasionally I like to take things apart to see how they work, especially old broken motors. They are always packed full of interesting metal components. Inspired by its contents, I slowly constructed this almost oriental shaped industrial-electric desk lamp. Made completely from reclaimed materials and with over one hundred nuts and bolts, this unique lamp literally holds itself together.

Electro Cocktail Glass Insulator - Desk Lamp £80 SOLD

After I came across a large collection of glass lids from old sweet jars, I knew I'd have to make use of them somehow.
After a few experiments involving glueing them together in various size stacks, I realised they looked reminiscent of insulators and wondered what they would look like with light passing through them. Finding various bases to mount them on, (in this case a donated cocktail shaker.)
I wired in the bulb housing and bobs your uncle.

Domed Plaster Cast Insulator - Desk Lamp £80 SOLD
(£150 Pair) One of an identical matching pair.

A life long fan of Frankenstein's laboratory and general electrical symbolism. This lamp has a definite electro theme. It contains many components, including a donated plaster cast ribbed cylinder, glass display dome, a reclaimed shaped wooden base and many nuts, bolts & washers for the final decorative visual touch. With the addition of a large golden crowned light bulb, it almost looks like a scientific experiment in a jar. It also has a none-identical twin too, which is a bonus.

Let The Light In - Pop-Up Exhibition 2026
Vintage Bulkhead - Desk Lamp - £50 SOLD

Rescued from the beer cellar of a local working-mens club,
this former wall mounted bulkhead light was covered in years worth of paint & grime. After an extensive deep clean, the addition of new electrical fittings, a new colour scheme and decorative wooden feet. It almost has an Art-Deco feel to its new life as a stylish desk lamp.
