I always pick this one when I’m staging projects 🤍🤎

The swirl of deep auburn, chocolate and ivory set in clear glass has that kind of tactile pull. And it doesn’t stop being worth it when the wax runs out. I’ve kept mine on the entrance table as a catch all for rings and change, the pattern is gorgeous and I love styling the two sizes next to each other.

No two jars come out with quite the same pattern either, so whichever one you end up with is properly yours.

The JKI studio got the green light from planning last week! 🫶🏼

A year in and these arched doors are still one of my favourite parts of this building. Technical drawing stage has started and installation is not far off.

We are so excited about our plans for this space! And we can’t wait to keep you updated as it moves along.

August has been busy so far 🤍 Finish samples spread across every surface of the studio while we make decisions that feel small until you realise they’re the ones that make or break a room.

Two trips down to London, a few install updates coming together nicely in projects that have been a long time in the making, and we are due to hear back on the studio renovation planning permission this week (fingers crossed)!

In amongst all that, the photo frames are getting close to landing in the collection, and we spent plenty of Yorkshire countryside time with Digby, who has strong opinions about long grass and none about finish samples whatsoever.

Two dressing rooms, two sinks, two mirrors, one shared morning that actually works for both of them.

Double the calm, everyone gets their own light, their own space and their own five minutes to get ready.

It’s designed in from the first plan, not styled at the end. Focussing on how you actually use the space and planning for it is the most important part of the process.

You can’t tell if a pendant is right for a project from a spec sheet. A few things I actually check once the sample’s in the studio.

1. The craftsmanship, whether it’s been put together properly and the quality of the material.
2. The finish of the materials up close, not just how it photographs.
3. The weight of it in hand, that’s usually where quality shows first.
4. And how the finish sits against the other samples already in the scheme, because a piece can look right on its own and still be wrong for the room.

Moody farmhouse interiors get ruined by one thing, too much white.

This materials board is what we’re using on The Cottage instead. Warm dark oak for the joinery, York sandstone on the walls for something with real texture and history in it, a rich deep indigo for the accents, and a creamy paint to stop the whole room feeling too heavy.

Nothing on here is trend led, it’s all stuff that’ll still look right in ten years.

The Arc Lanterns get asked about more than almost anything else in the collection, so here’s how I actually use them. 🖤

They are best styled as a pair, one tall, one small, and they’re designed to be displayed together rather than picked apart.

On a mantelpiece, either side of a hearth, or grouped on a console, the height difference does the work, it stops the display looking flat. Unlit, the matte black iron on its own is enough, it holds its shape as an object. Lit, the glass throws a warm, even glow and the iron loop casts these quiet shadows behind it that I use constantly to set the mood in a finished room.

Our Dakota project is an SBID Awards finalist! 🖤

Every detail in this project was a labour of love. The bronze fixtures, the walnut cabinetry on the his and hers wardrobes, the champagne textured wallpaper against all that deep enveloping brown. We loved working on every part of it.

So here are some pictures of some of the details we loved most!

A client asked me last week which Ares she should put in her living room. Her scheme is neutral with antique brass and bronze running through it, which meant the frame was never really the question. The stone was the decision.

I sent her the antique brass with green onyx. In a room that’s all warm neutrals, it’s the only colour in the room, so your eye goes to it, and because the stone is almost translucent, it shifts depending on where you’re standing.

We specified every colourway before any of them went into the collection, and that’s the one I keep coming back to.

If you’re not sure where to start, the White Banswara marble on smoked gold is the one I point people to. It’s the quietest of the five. Warm room or cool room, next to linen or velvet, it doesn’t argue with anything.

There isn’t a wrong answer here. The proportions are identical across all five and the C-frame slides over a sofa arm rather than fighting it for floor space, so whichever you land on will sit right. It’s built to be lived with rather than looked at. That’s the whole point of the collection.
