Could communal housing be a viable way of providing more affordable housing for young people in Guernsey?

We've had architecture student Oli back to the studio this summer. Always up for a design challenge, we tasked him with exploring affordable housing options for Guernsey's young people.

Oli's solution? A communal housing development incorporating shared living spaces, inspired by the UK student housing model.

The fictional development called ‘Les Jonnes’, which translates as ‘the young’ in Guernsey French, would provide affordable housing for young people, foster community and encourage social interaction.

Oli presented the concept to Deputy Neil Inder, Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, Deputy Steve Williams, Planning’s Development Control Manager, the Principal Forward Planning Officer and the Guernsey Housing Association.

We've been shortlisted for the 2026 Guernsey Design Awards! Our client's lovely sea-front dower unit has been included in the small projects category.

We wanted the extension to carefully integrate into the established setting with a newer, contemporary palette visually linking back to the character of the main house. The glazed corner is the focal point of the architecture, framing and setting the sea view.

We think it's a winner, and we hope the judges think so too!

One of our projects is featured in the July issue of House & Garden

The design for this stunning family home focused on blending classic coastal character with modern simplicity. We reconfigured the existing layout and extended to maximise flow, enhance natural light and strengthen the connection to the surrounding landscape. The result feels timeless yet contemporary.

We loved collaborating with Studio Ashby Ltd on the interior architecture and design for this beautiful project.

We've designed this early concept for a new beachfront home, balancing site width constraints and neighbouring privacy.

The client wanted to avoid a predominantly flat roof design, so the scheme explores a series of pitched roof forms alongside natural materials, sheltered outdoor spaces, and carefully considered glazing to maximise the coastal views.
