Guernsey Made

Guernsey Made Started early 2013 to try my hand at selling the sort of thing I have been making for myself and friends for years! I hope you like what I do!

Guernsey Made is the home of all things Guernsey, designed and made by Adelaide Laine, pure bred Guernsey Donkey 😂 follow for news of new donkeys, cards, books and gifts, all Guernsey themed! I attend craft fayres with my stall of items I have made, and do special orders for personalised items.

Behold 🥳 the hedge donkey box is back!

Well, the old one had to be retired, but we made a new one, bigger and better than before!

To celebrate its launch, a selection of big and small Guernsey 🇬🇬 donkeys 🫏 are for sale in there at special prices! (£20 for a big one and £9 for a small one, a saving of £4 or £2 respectively 😊) there’s a map in the comments if you don’t know where to find it!

My self-imposed donkey sewing challenge is going well, I’m halfway through! The newborn donkeys had a little game of follow-my-leader and a meeting in the garden to try and decide what their names should be, but they just kept squabbling… maybe you can help name them! If you’d like one of these cute Guernsey donkeys, just let me know! 🇬🇬🫏🇬🇬

Is anyone else crap at making decisions?! I am 😂 so to make myself take some fabrics out of my stash and turn them into donkeys, I’ve got out all the spare sets of felt I’d already cut and matched ten of them up! Hopefully they’ll look great when they’re done 🤞 time to sew! 🪡🫏🇬🇬

For the last three years I’ve made and sold things from leftover fabric and yarn* to sell on my hedge stall for Rotary Shoeboxes for £1 each, and donated all of those pounds to UNICEF, making them doubly good for the children of our world who may not get anything for Christmas… I can’t help them all, but so far have knitted and crochet 32 scarves and 10 little teddies and bunnies ready for this autumn! I find craft quite mindful, especially crafts I can do on auto-pilot, hence there are more scarves than toys 😂

* occasionally I treat myself to a new ball of wool from Craftwise, even though there’s still a whole draw full to get through 😂

How cute is this that just popped up on my news feed?!🫏⚽️🧦❤️🤍

Like many fellow crafters, I’m sure, I have far too big of a stash of fabrics! Which of these should I sew into donkeys, and which should I donate to some charitable cause or other? (I’m open to suggestions as to what cause!) 🇬🇬🫏🪡

To help you decide, and as I have some new followers recently, I made up a little family of donkeys, to show what they look like and how different felt colours work with the fabric 😊 any suggestions gratefully appreciated, and if you’d like a donkey, big or small out of any of these fabrics, just let me know!

I’d like to make the most of my fabric stash as I can before buying any more fabric, because the prices have gone up so bloney much and I don’t want to have to put up the price of my donkeys 😬

My husband says surely anyone on Guernsey that wants a donkey has already got one, but there’s new little Guernsey donkeys being born all the time, so I live in hope 😉🤣

Yesterday I posted about stories I wrote because the north of the island is disproportionately underrepresented in local history books. Today I’m talking about local women, who were also underrepresented in local history books! I found some rather interesting local ladies to share with you, plus a few from my own family! 📚👍🙋‍♀️👸👩‍🍼🇬🇬

Guernsey’s Postmistress is about a widow who won herself a rather important job, becoming the first in the UK!
Madame Hugo’s House is about some good deeds orchestrated by the wife of a famous man, who is obviously written about more than she is…
The Good Angel tells the story of a heroic woman
The Old Woman Of Rouge Huis was Guernsey’s oldest female resident and a very interesting woman
The Day The Letter Came is about two women in my family who lost a mutual loved one during the Great War…
La Faumme Sage is about my great, great grandmother, who was a peculiar kind of woman
Lastly, Angels in Aprons. Not all heroes wear capes, like this group of Cobo folk during the Occupation, including several women who did what they could to help the children of the parish, and may well have saved their lives…

If any of these sound interesting to you, you can buy my new book (and all of my earlier books!) from Cadeaux, Sula or directly from me 🫶
