10 LESSONS FROM OUR 10 YEARS OF MARRIAGE

1.⁠ ⁠Invest in Prayer Early
Begin praying for your marriage from an early age. I started praying about my marriage at the age of 12. If you haven’t started yet, it’s never too late. (Philippians 4:6)

2.⁠ ⁠Marry at the Right Time
Avoid marrying too early or too late. Marry when you are truly ready, considering emotional maturity and financial, spiritual preparedness.

3.⁠ ⁠Make Wise Decisions
There are two crucial decisions in life: accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour and choosing whom to marry. The choice of a spouse can impact your spiritual journey, leading you either closer to or further from God.

4.⁠ ⁠Adhere to Biblical Principles
Ensure your marriage aligns with biblical principles rather than following the advice of ungodly friends. Seek counsel from Scripture and wise, godly mentors. (Psalm 1:1-2)

5.⁠ ⁠Sustain Your Marriage Through Prayer
A Christian marriage is sustained by biblical principles and prayer. Everything that begins with prayer should continue to be nurtured through prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

6. Practice The Marriage Triangle
The more a couple draws near to God, the closer they will grow to each other, forming a strong Christian triangle of unity.

7.⁠ ⁠Involve Your Spouse in Ministry
If the husband is actively engaged in Christian ministry, it's crucial to ensure that his wife is equally involved. This fosters unity and harmony at home, ensuring both partners are on the same page.

8.⁠ ⁠Build a Christian Home
Establish your home on biblical principles, avoiding non-biblical conduct. This includes maintaining a strong moral foundation and rejecting behaviours contrary to Scripture.

9.⁠ ⁠Practice Faithfulness and Key Virtues
Faithfulness in marriage is both possible and essential. Cultivate forgiveness, tolerance, respect, and submission as foundational virtues. Stay committed to your spouse and avoid infidelity through adherence to biblical teachings. (Hebrews 13:4)

10.⁠ ⁠Understand the Symbolism of Marriage
Marriage symbolizes the relationship between Christ and the Church, making divorce not an option. Work diligently on your marriage, pray together, and resist letting conflicts introduce irreconcilable differences. (Ephesians 5:25-32)

Seek God to be your shield in times of need:
- A shield in battle serves as a defensive barrier, safeguarding warriors from enemy assaults.
- Throughout history, shields have been vital, providing soldiers protection and enhancing their chances of survival.
1. They offer soldiers protection on the battlefield, increasing their survival odds.
2. They symbolise strength, courage, and unity among warriors.

- Typically crafted from sturdy materials like wood, metal, or animal hide, shields vary in shape and size, reflecting cultural and historical contexts.

1. Shields intercept incoming blows from swords, spears, arrows, and projectiles.
2. They deflect such blows, providing defence.
3. Shields can also be employed to push back or subdue opponents, granting tactical advantages in close combat.

Prayer points:
1. Psalm 3:3 - "Lord, be a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head high."
2. Psalm 5:11 NIV - "Lord, spread your protection over me, so I may rejoice in your name."
3. Psalm 18:2b - "Lord, be the shield around me, the mighty power that saves me and lifts me to a place of safety."
