Linocut Calligraphy “Hiç” on Ebru paper. In Turkish and Persian “hēç هیچ”, “lâşey - ﻻ ﺷﺊ” in Arabic or in greek “κανένας”: none, no-one, never, ever, any, nothing, zero, non-existed. (Antimatter or dark matter?) In Sufi context ”being nothing and reaching everything." Although it sounds like nihilism, it corresponds to concept of “Nirvana”.
There is a very cool dervish story about this. A dervish named Lâşey (Lashay). His father is giving this name to the kid and kid is asking “what does my name means?”, because other kids making fun and calling him “Lâşe”. His father says: 'Lâşey' is a position, it is the last stop of the journey." I could not change my own name because I did not consider myself worthy of that journey, but I still wanted to name my child 'Lâşey' so that I would have something to do with that name. And “Laşe” means dirth my son, they call it the stinky co**se of a dead animal (“leş” Turkish). Don't worry about this, think like 'so God is reminding me what I should and shouldn't be'. When they call you this, you remember what you shouldn't be, and when they mention your name, you remember what you should be. The road is sometimes full of obstacles. Knowing what the obstacles are makes the road easier. Know the Lâşe so that you can reach Lâşey more easily.”
His fate is determined by this name he becomes a dervish…. And then the story starts actually! But 1 post is not enough for this so I’ll continue later 😂 But let me tell you something: I watched The Wheel of Time S:2 E:3 and I'm sure Nynaeve’s “Accepted Test” is coming from this story! 🛞 Now her title “Wisdom” makes more sense! And I really love how those stories all around the world from India, China, Arabia to Europe lives in and spreading over and over in different forms. Isn’t this so cool? In the next episode of Hidden Ebru I’ll tell you the tests of Lâşey! 😂
And let’s finish this post traditionally by a word from an old scholar:
“When everyone is trying to be something, be nothing. Range with emptiness. Human should be like a pot. As the pot is hold by its emptiness inside, human is hold by the awareness of his nothingness.”
― Shams Tabrizi (12th century)
