So tonight was good fun and interesting experience. A friend of mine asked me if I'd be interested in giving some cooking lessons to his kid, who like me is riddled with ADHD. This week the lad picked ramen, good choice, but a challenge to teach to a pure beginner.
Fortunately he was engaged from beginning to end and because hes interested was super focused on everything. We did everything from the broth, to simple mise en place and the now legendary 5:38 eggs.
Believe it or not I am really patient in the right circumstances and tonight was one of the most relaxing and stressful free times I've had in a kitchen since forever. Even when he first took a knife and I thought he'd lose his finger tips, he listened and then performed the next cuts like he'd been doing it for years.
This is the result, a pork belly ramen with marinated mushrooms, baby bok choi, soy egg and a surprisingly rich and full broth considering it was a speed run. He even plated, and I think they look decent for a young lad with no experience while also practicing a second language with his new chef teacher.
I'm super happy with how it all worked. Looking forward to future lessons.
