Its lengthy size reveals that it was possibly a commissioned textile which, because it was probably treasured, has been preserved in mint condition.

The most charming kilims in the south-western parts of Iran, are the ones made in the Fars province by the Qashqai tribes.

The bold geometric designs, accompanied occasionally by heraldic motifs, are characteristic of these kilims. The element though, that makes some of these kilims to really stand out, as is often the case, it is none other but the choice of colors.

The burnt orange and mainly the greens, supported by two wonderful shades of blue and natural white, make this Qashqai kilim an exceptional one. In perfect condition.

New Arrival!

Still within our ‘Antique Kilims: Threads of Time’ chapter, we explore pieces where heritage and artistry come together in compositions shaped by tradition.

The most famous Fethiye kilims are the ones with a plain color woven part, separating the two highly decorated slit tapestry woven parts. These were also used as camel or horse covers in ceremonial parades.

This area of the Turkish south coastal line, near Antalya, has no other significant textile product to offer us except flatweaves.

Very few examples surviving, have such wonderful colors and design as the present one. A very rare and highly decorative flatweave.

Antique Shirvan kilims are arguably the most famous and popular Caucasian flat weaves. Quite a big variety of pieces can be found, although few of these being in good condition.

This attractive red ground Shirvan kilim was made at the dawn of the 20th century.

The fact that it has a design that resembles more a Sumak rather than a typical kilim from this area, makes it unusual. It is decorative and in good condition.

This amazing type of flatweave textile is mainly found in central Asia Minor. The basic kilim weave is additionally crafted with interlacing weft threads, infusing it with depth, texture and traditional motifs.

These extra weft threads enhance the resilience and longevity of the flat weave, allowing at the same time the weaver to explore her artistic capabilities. This particular cicim has muted colors, suited to any elegant environment.

This antique Moroccan kilim, although typical of the Middle Atlas kilim weaves, is exceptional due to its wonderful and warm golden color and because of the arrangement of the traditional motif designs.

It is a textile made for personal use, hence it reflects the charming personality of the lady weaver, who embraced it with care and talent for her family.

This month, we turn to antique kilims as carriers of history — each piece a quiet testament to craftsmanship, culture, and the passage of time, in our chapter Antique Kilims: Threads of Time.

The Shahsavans living in the Transcaucasian mountainous region of N.E. Persia are nomadic tribes, with a very distinctive geometric design repertoire. Most of their weavings are flatwoven more often with strong natural colors.

A distinct characteristic is a repetition of motifs, both vertically and horizontally, whilst in many cases we come across charming, improvised motifs scattered randomly in the field. Although usually of not high commercial value some kilims and rugs are of very decorative capacity especially in country houses.

As this chapter draws to a close, nature remains at the heart of each space — expressed through earthy tones, intricate patterns and textures, woven into the art of living.

This charming Indian rug is a combination of carpet and sumac weaving technique. It has few but expertly mixed earthly shades of gold and beige, which allows it to be suitable for almost all décor styles, adding a breath of charming simplicity.
