What light taught me
away from projects.

Sometimes, art is already there.
On a stone path in Meganisi, a few accidental lines, scratches and traces brought to mind the material world of Antoni Tàpies.

Nothing had been designed.
Nothing had been placed deliberately.
It simply needed to be noticed.

And then I wondered:
What would happen if light treated this ordinary stone as a work of art?

Light does not always need to create a spectacle.
Sometimes, its most meaningful role is simply to reveal what was already waiting to be seen.

Most “futuristic” projects
age fast.
This one didn’t.
Embryo Clinic project (2013)

We recently revisited the project,
not as a memory, but in full operational, examinable condition.
And that’s where design is truly tested.

Not in renders.
Not in awards.
But in time.

What becomes clear today is this:
This project was never about form.
It was about conditions.

The lighting design by Reflectlights, in dialogue with MALVI’s architecture,
does not decorate space —
it defines how space is experienced.

— White is not neutral. It is active.
— Light does not highlight. It structures flow.
— Atmosphere is not added. It is embedded.

This is what we define as quantum aesthetics:

Not what the space looks like —
but how it is continuously experienced by the observer.

And then, a detail that reveals the thinking behind it:

Occhio’s Sento sospeso
in a custom special light version with dual Sento heads.
At the time,a design innovation.
Today,part of standard production.

What was once experimental
became standard.
What remains
is the clarity of the original idea.
Innovation is not what is new.
It is what still makes sense years later.

Light is not what we install,
it is what we enable.

Revealing Volos' Industrial Memory Through Light

Opposite the historic railway station of Volos, a new City Hotel rises in one of the city's most significant industrial districts — where brick factories, warehouses and railway infrastructure shaped the city's identity for over a century.

As the district is gradually regenerated, contemporary architecture enters into a dialogue with that industrial heritage. The lighting concept was built around that relationship.

Rather than continuous LED strips, we used a compact optical luminaire that casts a delicate halo of warm light around each recessed opening. The light follows the architectural geometry, revealing its depth, rhythm and symmetry while keeping the façade quiet.

The aim was restraint — to express the values that define the architecture itself: rhythm, hierarchy, repetition, materiality.

From the first simulation, to the on-site mock-up, to the completed façade, every decision served one purpose: to let the architecture speak after sunset.

As Volos rediscovers its industrial identity, we're glad architectural lighting can be part of that transformation — revealing the history that's already there, with respect.
