This is the story of a beautiful collaboration between Céline from Maison Pérégrinations and The Hong Kong Lampshade Studio.

Returning from one of her treasure hunts in China, Céline gave me a call. She had found a charming, very small, and damaged antique lotus lampshade, and was wondering if reupholstering it was even possible.

My answer? “Yes, I can!”

Céline also brought in the base, which The Hong Kong Lampshade Studio electrified with a very natural wood color wire.

Look at it today, beautifully restored with this soft, off-white linen. It is available The Collective Room HK Wouldn’t you agree that small is beautiful?

This is the story of a beautiful collaboration between Céline from Maison Pérégrinations and The HK Lampshade Studio.

This project involved reupholstering two lampshades with a highly unique fixing system. Even after more than six years of experience, I discovered a mechanism I had never seen before. Instead of the usual rings used to keep a lampshade round, this system utilized plates—one at the top and one at the bottom—secured inside the shades by four small screws.
Needless to say, my measurements had to be meticulously precise. Because the plates could only be inserted once the lampshades were fully finished, that final step was incredibly rewarding.

From Paris to Hong Kong!
Story 3/3

It took quite a while to place all the trims across the hexagon and the triangles—a very meticulous job, done 1 cm by 1 cm.

But what a reward it was afterwards to see the lampshade finished!
I couldn’t believe it was finally done! However, we still had to attach the strings to hang it from the ceiling.

The most exciting part was delivering this large ceiling lamp to Mid-Levels. When we attached it to the ceiling, we were very careful to ensure that it was well-balanced.

The best reward was the cheerful compliment I got from my client! I am so happy and proud to have carried out this entire project—from a photo to the reality of a lampshade in a living room, from Paris to Hong Kong.

From Paris to Hong Kong!
Story 2/3

The frame was beautifully crafted—the intersections were absolutely perfect. I was so happy with the work my supplier had done.

Now, it was my turn!
I began cutting the off-white linen chosen by my client, settling each panel into place one after the other, patiently and meticulously.
Making a lampshade requires painstaking work; nothing can be rushed.
Every gesture must be precise, focus must be absolute, and the craftsmanship must be rigorous.
I love it!
I love being in my studio, completely immersed in what I am creating. I work in silence, because even music would break my concentration.

Once the lower part of the lampshade was complete, I began working on the top triangles—the very elements that give the piece its unique personality. One by one, slowly, I watched the lampshade take shape. What a pleasure, and how exciting!

Finally, it was time for the trimming, using a tone-on-tone finish in the exact same off-white fabric. Trimming is the final touch that totally highlights all the hard work! It is always so rewarding!

From Paris to Hong Kong!

This was such an exciting project!
A lady contacted me a few months ago. She had fallen in love with a ceiling lampshade she had seen in a beautiful hotel where she had stayed in Paris 🇫🇷.
Her wish was to get a similar lampshade for the flat she was renovating in Mid-Levels 🇭🇰.
I created five scale mock-ups, taking into account the size of the room and the height of the ceiling. Hong Kong apartments usually have lower ceilings than those in Paris, so this detail was very important to consider.
When her interior designer, my client, and I agreed on the fifth option, I knew the easiest part was over!

The next step was to find the right supplier who could create a large, unique, custom piece. I reached out to a few suppliers and finally selected one known for working with high precision.
Look at how the frame was sent—impeccably packed!
