結他維修隨筆 #887：【 2015 PRS USA Mark Holcomb】

今日處理呢支 2015 年產的 PRS USA Core Model。
即使是正廠系列，經過多年功能深厚嘅演奏，Fret 難免會出現磨損導致的高低不平。今次 Setup 的重點在於精密的 Fret Leveling（整平），確保在極低弦距下依然保持音色清脆。
技術觀察：

PRS 正廠的琴頸工藝確實令人印象深刻。琴頸結構非常紮實，而且 Truss Rod（鋼筋）的反應極其靈敏——只需輕微調節，琴頸弧度就能做出大幅度且精準的改變。這種物理反饋反映佢哋設計上的深厚功力。
將琴頸修正到適當Relief後，配合 20" Radius 的平指板進行Leveling，這支琴已經恢復了巔峰時期的手感。

【Service Log: 2015 PRS USA Mark Holcomb Signature】

Back on the bench today is a beautiful 2015 PRS USA Core Model. Despite the legendary build quality of PRS, years of dedicated playing had led to uneven fret wear, causing buzz issues in the higher registers.

Technical Highlights:

Precision Fret Leveling: With a flat 20" radius fingerboard, there is zero margin for error. I performed a meticulous leveling and recrowning to restore a clean, buzz-free performance at low action.

Exceptional Neck Stability: One standout feature of this USA Core build is the responsiveness of the truss rod. The neck structure is incredibly stable; even a minor adjustment yields immediate, precise changes in relief. This level of engineering makes fine-tuning a professional's dream.

Now fully optimized and back to its peak playability.

【 Flying V 修復誌：下半部 — 靈魂的最後 1% 】🛠️
上回講到幫呢支 Flying V 完成咗琴頸黏合嘅大手術，結構已經恢復咗應有嘅強度同傳導。但對一位製琴師嚟講，結構穩固只係基礎，真正嘅挑戰係點樣還原果種被稱為「靈魂」嘅 Vintage Tone。

當結構、木材、Nitro 硝基漆同埋 PAF 拾音器都到位嘅時候，最後一塊拼圖，往往就係被好多人忽略嘅——弦枕材料。
客人原本用緊牛骨，雖然聲底乾淨，但同 50 年代果種溫暖、帶點鼻音（Honk）嘅中頻始終差咗少少。

為咗搵返呢個聲，我放下咗市面上現成嘅零件，投入咗一段時間去研究材料配方。

經過反覆比對原廠數據同測試不同密度，我終於調製出並且搵咗一間工廠製作呢款質感同頻率傳導都最接近「正宗規格」嘅尼龍材料。
迷人之處在哪？

因為呢隻尼龍有一種獨特嘅韌性，當它結合了 Gibson 的木結構、薄薄的 Nitro 硝基漆，以及 PAF 拾音器，它會過濾掉刺耳的高頻，轉而產生一種凝聚、圓潤，甚至帶點「鼻音」的中頻表現。

當你彈落去果一刻，你會發現聲音唔再係單薄嘅金屬撞擊聲，而係一種非常有層次、圓潤且獨特嘅韻味。

由琴頸修復到材料研究，每一處細節嘅累積，先至成就到最後呢種令人感動嘅聲音。

【 Searching for the Lost Sound 🔍 | Why I Obsessed Over a Single Nut for this Flying V 】
I recently performed a "major surgery" on a client’s Flying V, reverting the nut material from bone back to Nylon.

While many assume a bone nut is the ultimate upgrade, in the world of Gibson—especially for those chasing that authentic Vintage Tone—the Nylon 6/6 nut is the true "open secret."

I’ve tried ordering various "Vintage Spec" nylon materials from different sources, but the feel and sound were always slightly off.

They either felt too "plastic" or lacked the correct texture during the filing process.

To bridge that final gap,

I spent months cross-referencing original specs and collaborated with a material specialist to refine a custom formula.
Why the obsession?

Because when the right Nylon formula meets Gibson’s mahogany structure, the thin Nitrocellulose lacquer, and a set of PAF pickups,

it creates a specific midrange punch and that iconic "honk" that bone can never replicate.

This wasn't just a simple part replacement; it was a deep-dive experiment into the physics of tone.

【有一種浪漫，叫做「自己嘅結他自己改」🎸】
今次呢支 Epiphone Flying V 嘅主人，真係一位非常有品味嘅玩家！
佢對 Vintage 探究根本有一份好純粹嘅熱愛，仲好享受親手賦予結他新生命嘅過程：
✅ 工藝級 DIY：佢親手將原本嘅厚漆剷走，換上咗透薄、會呼吸嘅 Nitro（硝基漆），仲調配出超靚嘅 Korina 原木色澤。
✅ 經典配置：仲自己換埋傳奇嘅 P.A.F. 拾音器，由內到外還原 50 年代嘅神韻。
而我嘅角色就係維修結他頸斷裂，發覺原本嘅結他頸用膠水實在太少啦，咁樣好影響震動傳遞，所以我就：
1️⃣ 琴頸黏合修復：精準接合，等琴頸同琴身重新融為一體，共鳴更直接。
2️⃣ 手工尼龍 Nut：特別為佢定製咗 Nylon Nut，補完最後一塊 Vintage 拼圖。
咁識玩、又鍾意鑽研細節嘅朋友交流，成個維修過程都充滿火花，真係好正！

【The Art of Personalized Tone 🎸】

This Epiphone Flying V belongs to a true connoisseur who knows exactly what he wants!

It’s inspiring to see a player so passionate about the DIY spirit and vintage aesthetics:
✅ A Labor of Love: He personally refinished the guitar with a thin, breathable Nitrocellulose lacquer in a stunning Korina tint.
✅ The Heart of Gold: He also installed a set of P.A.F. pickups to capture that authentic 50s soul.

Since the owner took such care with the aesthetics and electronics, I focused on perfecting the structural foundation:
1️⃣ Precision Neck Joint: Meticulously re-glued the neck to ensure seamless vibration and resonance.
2️⃣ Custom Nylon Nut: Hand-carved a Nylon Nut to complete the vintage specs.

It’s a real joy to collaborate with a player who appreciates the finer details of guitar craftsmanship. This V has truly evolved into a one-of-a-kind instrument!

Performed a little 'surgery' on this circuit today: a full hand-wired vintage cloth re-wire, paired with premium CTS pots and caps, all finished with clean, solid solder joints.

With the signal path fully optimized, the clarity is back and the dynamics are literally jumping off the fretboard! 🎸

剛剛做好，由我親手製作嘅 Snowpeace Guitar。

呢支結他有一個特別意思——
爸爸為紀念女女嘅生日 4 月 17 號，所以我喺 第 4 格 同 第 17 格 加咗星星 inlay。
整體以夜空做概念，琴頭放咗一個月亮 inlay，tuning head 就用上黑色，乾淨、簡單。

多謝咁多位朋友一路以嚟支持 Snowpeace。
世界變得快，但我會繼續慢慢做好每一支結他。

Just finished this piece — a Snowpeace Guitar handmade by me.

This guitar carries a special meaning.
To celebrate a father’s love for his daughter and her birthday on April 17,
I added small star inlays on the 4th and 17th frets.
The whole design follows a night-sky theme, with a moon inlay on the headstock
and black tuning heads for a clean, simple look.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Snowpeace.
The world changes fast, but I’ll keep taking my time to build each guitar with care.

Just finished installing the frets! Five years ago, I couldn’t imagine myself being able to make a compound radius fretboard. Now with all the tools available, the whole process becomes so much smoother and more precise ❤️
