One-of-a-Kind Sake Cups

At HULS Gallery, we have long been fascinated by the individuality found in handcrafted sake ware. Among our most popular pieces are one-of-a-kind sake cups by Japanese ceramic artists, each carrying the distinctive character of its maker and place of origin.

From the earthy, fire-marked surfaces of Bizen, to the soft tones and subtle textures of Hagi, and the powerful forms of Iga, each ceramic tradition reveals a different relationship between clay, fire, and the landscape from which it emerged.

A selection of one-of-a-kind sake cups is now available on the HULS Gallery Hong Kong Online Store.

HULS Gallery

Looking Back at Art Central 2026

In March, HULS Gallery participated in Art Central 2026 in Hong Kong, presenting works by glass artist Takeyoshi Mitsui and ceramic artist Q Tani.

Through two distinct materials—glass and clay—the presentation explored contemporary expressions of Japanese craftsmanship. Mitsui’s sculptural glass works reveal a playful yet refined approach to form, while Tani’s ceramics draw inspiration from Ko-Shigaraki, pursuing the quiet depth found in ancient Shigaraki ware.

The works resonated with many visitors and collectors, creating meaningful encounters and conversations throughout the fair. For HULS Gallery, Art Central was also an opportunity to share how the traditions, materials, and aesthetics rooted in Japan’s craft regions can find new relevance within the context of contemporary art.

We remain grateful to everyone who visited our presentation in Hong Kong.

Kogei’s Place in Our Lives - HULS Gallery Brand Book

Where does kogei belong in our lives today?

“Kogei’s Place in Our Lives,” the brand book of HULS Gallery, explores this question through a collection of beautiful photographs and essays on Japanese craftsmanship.

Alongside images that capture the textures, forms, and quiet presence of contemporary kogei, the book features a series of columns by the founder of HULS, reflecting on the relationship between craft, everyday life, Japanese aesthetics, and the places where things are made.

More than an introduction to HULS Gallery, the book expresses our perspective on why handcrafted objects continue to matter in contemporary life—and how they can bring a deeper sense of connection to the way we live.

Now available through the HULS Gallery Online Store.

Bizen – A Landscape Shaped by Fire and Time

Overlooking the tranquil Seto Inland Sea, Bizen in Okayama Prefecture is home to one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions and is recognized as one of the country’s Six Ancient Kilns. For centuries, its rich clay, wood-fired kilns, and enduring craftsmanship have produced ceramics celebrated for their natural beauty and timeless character.

Rather than relying on glaze, Bizen ware reveals the quiet dialogue between earth, flame, ash, and time. Each piece bears unique kiln effects that can never be repeated, reflecting the philosophy that nature itself is an essential collaborator in the making process.

At HULS Gallery, we believe that preserving these regional traditions is essential to the future of Japanese craftsmanship. By sharing the stories of places like Bizen, we hope to connect people with the cultural landscapes that continue to inspire remarkable works of art.

YURAGI Tumbler – The Gentle Beauty of Hand-Blown Glass

The YURAGI Tumbler by the Japanese craft brand KORAI captures the quiet beauty that only hand-blown glass can achieve. Formed by the breath and movement of the artisan, each piece possesses subtle variations in shape and thickness, giving it a warmth that cannot be replicated by machine.

Its softly undulating silhouette reflects the meaning of yuragi - a gentle, natural fluctuation found throughout nature. As light passes through the glass, delicate reflections emerge, bringing a calm rhythm to everyday moments.

Designed with both simplicity and craftsmanship in mind, the YURAGI Tumbler invites you to experience the quiet elegance of Japanese handcraft through every sip.
