Our Story
Having a workshop of my own, working as a wood worker was never deemed feasible for the first 25 years of my life and hence it was never a dream. Growing up in the metropolitan Hong Kong and trained as a Geographer, I have never seen the path of becoming a wood worker came in my life until one tiny little push. In 2017 I have moved into Peng Chau with my partner and considering the sc
arce resources we had I thought I had to step-up and build simple furniture on my own. Having bought a table saw and let it sit for a couple of months, not having an idea of how wood working should be done, I was luckily admitted to a short woodworking course ran by a publicly funded institution out of an application I have submitted a year ago back then (well that came in real handy). Making use of the brief yet precious 3-months training I had I have slowly built a tiny workshop in my place and start working with wood. Was never in lack of ideas as what I built was what I need, be it a simple cabinet that fits right into the space next to our fridge or curtain holders that only has to do the simple job. Slowly improving I have started to build wood products for my neighbors and from people across the internet who has noticed us via social media. My partner has spent years working with leather as a hobbyists and I have also taken lessons on sewing, we are always thrilled to have projects that allow us to blend in all three materials, wood, leather and fabric. The Spirit of BBC
Drawing inspirations from what I need from my daily routines, we always look into small problems from our daily lives and solve it with our crafts. We stick to the finest quality of real wood and take durability as our priority in contrary to cost reduction. Our spirit is heavily influenced by another realm of service we offer, repair works. By laying our hands over pre-loved antique chairs and worn-out leather goods we study how things are made and how modern manufacturing has considered cost too much to an extent they sacrifice its durability. All our products are built considering it has to be used for a decade at least. Crafting
All our products are designed and crafted by us, wood working and sewing by me and leather goods by my partner in our workshop in Peng Chau. Our Space
Our workshop also serves as a retail store and we only sell what we design and what we manufacture right there. At least for now I still manage to uphold this major uniqueness of bundling the design, manufacturing, marketing and selling of our products, in our place. I have never seen a store that bare such an element and it is also an experiment to see if it brings the greatest joy when the production chain is centralised instead of being segmented.
