Pure AW's Designers Contemporary aesthetics with an inherent respect for nature, craftsmanship, and comfort

Founded in 2007, Pure AW’s Designers is a Hong Kong-based interior design firm working across fields of residential, retail, and commercial design. Led by founder Andy Wan, the firm was built upon tremendous respect and passion for nature, and has since, been committed to honouring the values of functionality and long-term thinking within their work. As a collective of multidisciplinary creatives,

their vision is to make sustainable living more accessible - to transform this abstract concept into a positive and restorative experience for the people and places they work with. The firm’s design approach combines an organic contemporary aesthetic with the pursuit of craft, quality, and comfort. Each project is approached with these same principles, beginning with a meticulous investigation into and exploration of the client’s needs and expectations. Their choice of materiality, colour, and new technologies creates layered design outcomes that are both sensory and emotive, in turn connecting people to spaces on an experience level. They are inquisitive and collaborative, interested in exploring ideas together with their clients and collaborators while building valued relationships. Pure AW’s Designers is passionate about all facets of design and believes it is an essentil component in delivering a comprehensive and successful project. Specialised in handling projects of different scales and depths of involvement - from creating a full interior concept, to custom-designing furniture pieces, coordinating architectural elements, and handpicking decorative items - the firm is recognised for crafting simplistic, functional, and refined designs backed by well-thought-out execution.

Rooted in the philosophy of the Five Elements, Pure AW’s Designers’ approach to interior design reflects a refined understanding of how nature and living environments can exist in dynamic harmony. Each element—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—is thoughtfully expressed through material choices and spatial planning, weaving natural textures into the language of the home.

Materials are chosen for environmental impact and durability. Wood signifies growth and
vitality, while stone grounds and stabilises; metal introduces clarity and precision, water brings flow and calm, and fire offers transformation and warmth.

This methodology is a respectful dialogue between humans and the elements, where beauty, function, and ethical responsibility converge.

Project Name: Sky Garden
Size: 739 sq.ft
Location: Ho Man Tin

“A palette of black, white, and grey, where simple routines and considered living for one take form within a setting of softness and light.”

Located in Ho Man Tin, this residence rethinks a conventional three-bedroom apartment into an open living, one-bedroom home tailored to the homeowner’s daily routines. The transformation emphasises clarity, restraint, and ease of living, guided by a modern minimalist approach expressed through a refined palette of black, white, light grey, and dark grey tones.

The living, dining, and kitchen areas are brought together in an open-plan arrangement, organised along a clear linear axis that extends from the entrance through to the kitchen island, dining table, and living area. White establishes a calm visual base, while furniture and built-in cabinetry in graduated shades of grey subtly define each function without fragmenting the home. Matte dark grey kitchen cabinetry is paired with light grey stone benchtops and large-format grey floor tiles, maintaining a cohesive material language throughout. The television wall introduces a restrained stone texture, doubling as concealed storage to keep visual clutter to a minimum.

In the master bedroom, the monochrome palette continues with an integrated arrangement that combines sleeping, working, and leisure functions. A custom headboard extends seamlessly into a desk positioned at the window, allowing natural light to support everyday activities. Soft light grey to off-white wall finishes temper the presence of darker cabinetry, keeping the room light and settled. As daylight shifts across the greyscale surfaces, subtle tonal variations emerge, lending depth while preserving a tranquil mood.

The Five Elements philosophy offers a structured yet intuitive lens through which interior environments can be shaped for balance, wellbeing, and long-term sustainability. Pure AW’s Designers integrates traditional Feng Shui with modern ecological practices, using natural light, improved airflow, and sustainable materials to create balanced living spaces.

Each direction corresponds to an element with specific materials and colours. East (Wood) features natural textures for growth. South (Fire) uses vibrant colours for energy. Earth zones (Central, Northeast, Southwest) offer grounding palettes for stability. Metal zones (West, Northwest) incorporate bright finishes for focus. North (Water) uses flowing colours and reflective surfaces for introspection.

Integrating these elements, Pure AW’s Designers designs homes that balance visual refinement with energetic harmony, where each material choice enhances overall wellbeing.
