The Flight of the Word: A New Ceramic Legacy
There is a profound beauty in the survival of a culture’s "voice."
This plate, currently part of the collection at the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, represents a bridge across a millennium. It is a fusion of the ancient Glagolitic script, the soulful foundation of Croatian literacy, and the timeless, intricate elegance of Armenian ceramic artistry.
The Heart of the Piece: "Glagoli - ⰳ"
At the center, two birds take flight. Look closely, and you will see they are shaped from the letter G (Glagoli). In our ancient tongue, Glagoli means "to speak."
By turning the "word" into a bird, the piece captures a delicate truth: that our heritage is not a heavy weight to be carried, but a set of wings that allow us to soar. It is a tribute to the power of communication, making it a fitting presence in a space dedicated to the service of a nation.
The warmth of the hand-painted motifs and the fusion of two distinct traditions, Croatian and Armenian, remind us that we are all part of a larger, interconnected human story.
It is more than a plate; it is a conversation between ancestors, a celebration of the "spoken word," and a reminder that our oldest traditions can still feel incredibly new.
