Gishyan Ceramics

Gishyan Ceramics High-quality handmade ceramic art works made in Croatia. Gishyan Ceramics is an Armenian ceramic brand that has gained popularity in recent years.

The brand was founded by visual artist and folk master Alina Gishyan, and is based in the quaint and picturesque Croatia. Despite being a relatively new brand, having been formed in 2016, Gishyan Ceramics has managed to retain the family traditions that have been passed down since 1972. Alina's passion for ceramics and her dedication to preserving her family's heritage has resulted in a collection

of stunning and unique pieces that are both functional and beautiful. The brand's most outstanding product, the ceramic exclusive pomegranates, are not only a visually appealing addition to any home décor but also hold significant symbolism and positive energy.

The Flight of the Word: A New Ceramic Legacy

There is a profound beauty in the survival of a culture’s "voice."

This plate, currently part of the collection at the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, represents a bridge across a millennium. It is a fusion of the ancient Glagolitic script, the soulful foundation of Croatian literacy, and the timeless, intricate elegance of Armenian ceramic artistry.

The Heart of the Piece: "Glagoli - ⰳ"
At the center, two birds take flight. Look closely, and you will see they are shaped from the letter G (Glagoli). In our ancient tongue, Glagoli means "to speak."

By turning the "word" into a bird, the piece captures a delicate truth: that our heritage is not a heavy weight to be carried, but a set of wings that allow us to soar. It is a tribute to the power of communication, making it a fitting presence in a space dedicated to the service of a nation.

The warmth of the hand-painted motifs and the fusion of two distinct traditions, Croatian and Armenian, remind us that we are all part of a larger, interconnected human story.

It is more than a plate; it is a conversation between ancestors, a celebration of the "spoken word," and a reminder that our oldest traditions can still feel incredibly new.

Tactile Garden collection

Inspired by organic topographies, each piece is an exploration of repetitive form. By hand-building hundreds of individual clay elements one by one, a rhythmic "garden" emerges, one that invites the viewer not just to look, but to feel the movement within the stillness.

Designed for the modern collector, the stark white ceramic relief is set against a deep black shadow box, creating a dramatic interplay of light and shadow that shifts with the day’s progression.

One of our most rewarding projects at Gishyan Ceramics is the creation of bespoke wedding favors. Our goal is always to balance traditional symbolism with modern elegance.

For this project, we chose the pomegranate. A timeless symbol of fertility, abundance, and a prosperous future. In many cultures, it represents the "fruit of life," making it the perfect keepsake for guests to take home in honor of a new union.

Whether it is through custom color palettes, hand-etched initials, or these meaningful shapes, we strive to create pieces that resonate with guests long after the celebration ends. We are grateful for every opportunity to turn clay into a lasting memory.

The Language of the Spirit 🏺🕊️

In the ancient square script of Croatia, letters were more than just phonetics, they were a "visual prayer," designed to convey deep philosophical and spiritual values.

At Gishyan Ceramics, we translate this 9th-century wisdom into Modern Relics. By hand-carving the Glagolitic alphabet into contemporary forms, we bridge the gap between historical weight and modern aesthetics.

The Symbolism of the Series:

The Letters: Each character in this ancient script carries a unique, profound meaning, representing virtues such as Dignity, Wisdom, and Unity. They are codes of a culture that valued the spirit as much as the word.

The Birds: A universal symbol of freedom and the soul, acting as messengers between our earthly heritage and the divine.

The Craft: Every piece is meticulously hand-carved to create a texture that feels both ancient and refined, honoring the deliberate pace of traditional craftsmanship.

These are not just decorative plates; they are statement pieces designed to bring the strength of history into the contemporary home.

Which letter of your own story would you choose to display? ✍️

The geometry of connection. 🏺✨

Featured today is the Glagolitic letter Iže (ï). In the ancient script of Croatia, this character represents Unity. It is a symbol of the threads that connect us to our history, our surroundings, and to one another.

In our studio, we illustrate Iže through the form of the bird, the messenger of the spirit. The fluid lines of the wings merge with the ancient angles of the script to create a "Modern Relic" that celebrates harmony.

Designed as a statement piece for the home, this decorative plate serves as a silent reminder of the beauty found in connection. 🕊️

Which letter should we unveil next? Let us know in the comments. ✍️
