We've kicked off 2025 with a bang, delivering our first project of the year—a stunningly restored cast iron bench!
This bench, originally from around 1970, features timbers salvaged from houses built between the 1950s and 1970s. These timbers have been lovingly stored by the bench's owners for decades.
AGJ Powder Coaters and Sandblasters in Kelmscott completed the cast iron work, which involved sandblasting, acid dipping, and temperature treating to remove any trapped gas and moisture. The cast was then etch primed, followed by a second primer, and finally powder coated in a sleek satin black finish.
The Jarrah wood, originally door frames, was split and dressed to dimension. We sanded it from 80 to 240 grit and then oiled it with an exterior-grade decking oil to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the timber without staining it.
We absolutely love giving old benches a new lease on life, and this piece is sure to last for decades to come!
