IS THERE ANYONE AS GOOD AS SANKER IN WOODWORK RESTORATION IN THE KALNG VALLEY OR, FOR THAT MATTER IN IN MALAYSIA?
RESTORATION AT IT'S BEST
This is the restoration of the case of one of my "Odo Sonodo Chime" clocks undertaken by Sanker my late friend, an artisan extraordinaire, a tribute to him can be found in this site.
I tried finding people who could do this but to no avail, I just hope there are artisans of this calibre still around, for those of you who are into carpentry I suggest you seriously look into this as there are many antiques awaiting restoration.

Sanker has done another clock for me too, sadly I do not have the "before" pics and am wondering if he saved any, I'll try contacting his son to see if the is.

THIS CLOCK CASE RESTORATION WAS UNDERTAKEN BY ME.
This is an old Junghans Free Sw***er found in the attic of one my sister's friends grandmother's home in Germany.
It was given to my sister who later gave it to me after she saw my collection on one of her visits to Malaysia.
This was the condition the clock was in when I received it. The second Picture is the condition the clock is in after I personally restored it.
This restoration is my piece of work and honestly it is no where near what Sanker does.
The crown was recommended to me by the Polish suppler of these crowns, he knows the appropriate crowns and assured me that this was a perfect fit, there are various types he showed me including this, I chose this, he stained the crown and I did the case to match.

He is irreplaceable I just found out.
Finding him in the first place was a challenge, I went all around furniture shops, carpenters so many people and found no one like him
Some carpentry shops can make box cases for your clocks with no problem, but ask them to restore one and they have no clue.Shanker just managed to restore two of my antiques, yes "restore" them but fate took a heavy blow.
He was and Engineer at TNB heart ailments forced him to retire and go into this trade where he excelled if you visit his FB page called Antique Restoration you'll see some of masterpieces, Singer Sewing Machines was wat he specialised in, but he also restored old Chinese Musical Instruments, clock cases antique tables and more.
The two clock cases that he restored for me were really excellent, I just sent one to another guy in Shah Alam and gosh what shoddy workmanship that was.
I had more clocks for him to restore plus a Singer Sewing Machine too, he spent a big part of last year waiting for a heart doner in India it never came, he returned we talked often on the phone only to find out that he passed away.
For one of the clocks he restored there is a ready buyer, but it is impossible to part with it, my youngest granddaughter loves that clock and it is her favourite, moreover there is memory Sanker I will cherish.

Hello Antique Restoration Family. We’d like to thank you all for liking the page and watching Mr. Sankar’s methods of restoring antiques and his amazing collection. Mr. Sankar passed away on the 16th of July. He loved every single antique that he restored and I want to thank everyone who trusted him with their precious family heirlooms, things that were old, or just things that needed a little pick me up. It truly gave him lots of joy from posting here and an additional purpose and a reason to keep moving forward. I remember helping him to make this page and he was incredibly excited to share everything he did with people with similar interests. This is a special and rare piece, it is a two train Westminster Chime Clock that only gives you the chime on the first, second and third quarters like any other Westminster Chime Clock. However it does not Chime the full chime on the hour but rather only strikes the hour.
That is why it is often referred to as the 3/4 Westminster Chime Clock.

A KIENZLE WITH AN UNUSUAL NAME - INGEBORG.
This is a Kienzle Westminster Clock with a rare name, it does not have the Kienzle name nor the logo on the dial, but the dial and all features are typically Kienzle plus you'll find the Kienzle logo on the back of the movement.
This is a limited edition I am told and it was named Ingeborg to honour Ingeborg Beling (1904-1988) she was a German ethologist from the early 20th century who worked in the field of chronobiology.
She studied at the University of Munich under the direction of Karl Von Frisch and is known for her research on the time sense of honey bees. In her research, in 1929, she trained bees to come to a feeding station at a specific time of day, day after day.
This contribution ultimately led to the discovery of the bees’ 24-hour biological clock.
BECAUSE OFTHIS ACHIEVEMENT, SHE WAS REGARDED AS THE FIRST FEMALE CHRONOBIOLOGIST.
This is a Limited Edition and there are less then 500 of such pieces with the name Ingeborg instead of Kienzle on the dial of these clocks worldwide.
The clock has a powerful Chime and I was lucky to land it in my collection.

Kaukasisch Nubaum poliert - Eiche. Which means Caucasian Walnut polished Oak. Clock is about 1930.Powerful chime and excellent resonance.

I TRIED MANY FURNITURE REPAIRERS ALL OVER THE STATE TO RESTORE THIS CLOCK CASE FOR ME.
The clock is an ODO, it is French about 85 years old with a duel chime it has the Westminster and Sonodo chime, the Sonodo chime is really beautiful.
He restored another clock for me too, that is keeping the originality intact and not removing or replacing anything, he is by far the best in the trade, he does sewing machines, old string instruments including ancient Chinese ones and he does a fantastic job.
As fate would have it he has a weak heart, a former Engineer with Tenaga Nasional he had to take early retirement to look after his health and devoted his time to Antique Restoration where he excelled.
He is now in Chennai Tamil Naad India awaiting a Heart Transplant. Yes, I got that right a "HEART TRANSPLANT" not a bypass or an open heart surgery but a heart transplant and is awaiting the availability of the heart, he has been in India for almost a year.
Please pray for him that he may recover, because it is so dangerous I pray for an alternate treatment to be found to give him a normal life.

Using tooth pick, pry open the cracks just enough to get some wood gum into the gaps (as far in as possible). Squeeze out and wipe off any excess gum before applying pressure on the spot preferably overnight.
