Michael Joseph Galligan opened the doors of his upholstery business at No. 8 Oliver Plunket Street, Cork in 1919, moving to No. 16 a few years later. He quickly developed a reputation for quality upholstered furniture and fabric, his name becoming synonymous with stylish furnishings Leeside. When Michael Joseph (the store’s namesake) passed away in 1957, his daughter Ann Galligan took the reigns,
continuing the family tradition of friendly, professional customer service. In 1984, Ann was joined by her own daughter Eleanor, who in the spirit of her mother and grandfather, had also developed a love for fabric and design. Together Ann and Eleanor extended the MJ Galligan range to include a vast selection of vibrant colours, rich textures and eye-catching designs, importing distinctive fabrics from all over the world. With MJ Galligan’s now located at No. 132 Oliver Plunkett Street, the mother and daughter team continue to impress their dedicated Cork customer base.
