❤️‍🔥 Happy Calendar Change Day! ❤️‍🔥

'That you can live and die in seconds
Or burn for a thousand years'

This poem is about ideas. Or more practically ‘activation energy’. We are all struck by those moments weather mundane or grandiose, that inspire us to take out the bins, or start a company, or have a child. Some of these ideas last moments and some lifetimes. Both are good.

Jennie chose the day lily for this painting because she felt like the poem and flower really fit well together in a few ways:

First, and possibly more obviously, the colours of this particular variety of day lily (which is called “punch yellow”) are very flame-like and look like they could burn for a thousand years. A lot of the other day lily varieties are various combinations of yellow, orange and red which are gorgeous and also suitable for this poem — we recommend looking them up if you're not familiar with them, they're lovely!

Secondly, each day lily flower only blooms for 1 day! These flowers tied into the first line of the poem really well because they bloom for a lot less time than most other flowers 🥹

Happy World Friendship Day! 🎉

JNC Designs started with three friends, who decided to put their different talents together and make something of their own. And somehow, our friendship turned into a little business that has grown far beyond what all of us could have imagined 🥹

So today we’re celebrating friendship in all its forms — the friends who inspire you, support you, make you laugh and cry ❤️‍🔥

First, there are the hands that paint. Then the hands that turn those paintings into layouts, and the hands that print, cut and fold everything into shape ✂️

Then our work travels from our hands into someone else’s — through shops, markets and postboxes, and eventually into yours. A lot of hands, a lot of little steps and one lovely journey from an idea to something you can hold 🤲🏻

💙 Happy Calendar Change Day! 💙

About the poem:

This is one of Naomi's favourite poems from this year's calendar. Written late at night, it became a reflection on creativity itself. Whether it's a poem, a painting, a garden — we all have the ability to create something from a simple spark ✨

About the painting:

Forget-me-nots were chosen for this month because they feel a lot like sparks themselves: small, bright, and impossible to overlook. Jennie loved working with their vivid blue tones — a surprisingly rare colour in nature — and used a limited palette of blues and greens to let the flowers shine 🩵

Annnd a fun fact! There is another small blue flower that looks very similar to forget-me-nots, the Siberian Bugloss. The way to tell the difference is in the leaves and the centres of the flowers - forget-me-nots have their distinctive, jolly yellow centres and long, thin, completely green leaves, whereas Siberian Bugloss have white centres and much larger, heart-shaped leaves that are pale green-white with darker green veins 😱
