These are Interesting Patrick Howard Art & Antiques - Patrick was renovating an old painting and found this copy of The Irish Independent from Aug 1950 to the rear of the frame. He passed it on and we took some pictures of reports and adverts.
- Calor Gas will most likely not repeat this advert today .
- Aer Lingus hit a milestone with 1000 people a day.
- English Students and Teachers were very impressed with Dublin and Ireland's , one said, 'it was something extraordinary to sense the obvious freedom in this country'
- The San Francisco Archbishop, John J Mitty, was visiting with others and he was spending time in Kilrane Wexford with the relatives.
- Walker's baby prams were very expensive at 15 Guineas but you could pay in instalments.

A little Sad History but very interesting - Daniel O'Connell - Glasnevin - Michael Carey - Francis Street

Time to Remember Michael Carey - a Little Boy from Francis Street. Michael was born in 1821, his Daddy was a scrap metal dealer on Francis Street. Like all Boys he played on our street nearly a 190 years ago but the little lad at the age of eleven contracted TB and died in 1832. Daniel O'Connell founded the cemetery at Glasnevin in 1832 and little Michael was the first person to be buried at the now famous Glasnevin cemetery. 1.5 Million people are buried there but the first one was Michael and a simple Stone marks his Grave right beside what was the old gate into the cemetery. The Next time you pass Glasnevin ..... Give a little thought to Michael and the special place he holds in our History - RIP -

On Francis Street you can find the rarest items and unique pieces but this morning we felt sorry for This Pink Princess rocking horse which looked rather lonely and abandoned - we would remind people that if you want to discard items - there are ways to do it properly and legally -meanwhile the Pink Princess sits pretty.
