What if design could influence behaviour without you even noticing?

The famous Volkswagen Piano Stairs in Stockholm are a brilliant example of nudge design: transforming an everyday staircase into something playful and engaging, encouraging people to take the stairs instead of the escalator.

Small design choices can shape how we move, interact and make decisions within a space.

Want to explore the research behind this and learn how to apply it to your own design practice?

Join me on September 22 for an inspiring session exploring the world of wellness design 🪵

This 90 minute session will introduce you to key research at the intersection of Neuroscience and Architecture and explore the fundamental ways that the environment shapes experience, so that you can learn to deliver healthy spaces.

One of the hardest working materials that we can use in design is the humble tile, standing up to water, heat and daily wear in a way that other materials cant.

The best versions today capture the subtle variations in wood grain, the beauty of marble and the joy of colour.

Thoughtfully used, the tile can elevate an interior whilst providing an easy clean, hard wearing and often economical solution.

Research in neuroscience and environmental psychology consistently shows that the spaces we inhabit shape our stress levels, sleep, cognitive function and long term health.

As designers we face significant challenges, not just to deliver inclusive, sustainable and adaptive spaces but also to deliver spaces that support health and well being.

There’s something timeless about a home filled with wood 🪵

Beyond its natural beauty, studies have shown that being around wood can help slow our heart rate, creating spaces that feel calmer, warmer, and more connected.

This project was designed with that feeling in mind.

Swipe to see how it evolved from the original 3D concept to the finished space, where every detail was brought to life with care.

Designed for everyday living ✨

Good design isn’t just about aesthetics; the spaces we live in shape how we feel, think, and function every day.

Some Research on the impact of cluttered spaces have indicated that people who spend time in these spaces are:

➢ more likely to snack impulsively
➢ shown to have higher cortisol levels
➢ more likely to feel stressed or anxious

However on a positive note they are often more creatively stimulated
