Curtain heading and length can make quite a difference to how a finished curtain looks. A pinch pleat gives a more tailored finish, while a wave heading is simpler and more contemporary. Then there’s the question of length. Do you want the curtains just touching the floor, breaking slightly, or with a little extra fabric pooling at the bottom?

There isn’t one right answer. A lot depends on the fabric, the room and how formal you want the finished look to be. It’s worth thinking about these details when you’re choosing your fabric rather than leaving them until the end. Some fabrics will naturally suit a particular style of curtain better than others.

Sunday evening inspiration.

We’ve been looking through the latest fabric and wallpaper books and saving a few favourites for the week ahead.

Some are bold, some are much quieter, and a few are combinations we probably wouldn’t have thought to put together until we saw them side by side.

Here’s one that caught our eye.

One to save for a future project, perhaps?

You know the fabric you keep going back to?

That’s usually the one worth paying attention to.

We see it all the time in the showroom. Someone will look through dozens of designs, narrow it down, change their mind... and eventually come back to one of the first ones they picked.

There’s probably something to be said for trusting your first instinct.

A little inspiration for the week from some of the collections currently in the showroom.

A photograph can give you a good idea of a fabric, but it never tells you the whole story.

The weight, the weave and the way the colour changes in different light are much easier to judge when you have the actual sample in front of you.

It’s also worth putting fabrics beside each other. Something that looks quite ordinary on its own can turn out to be exactly what a scheme needs.

We an extensive selection of fabric and wallpaper books in the showroom, with plenty of space to pull out samples and have a proper look.

You can usually spot a Designers Guild collection - there’s a confidence to the way they use colour.
What we particularly like is the choice within the collections. If the brighter colours aren’t for you, there are plenty of quieter options, and the plains and textures make it easy to bring everything together.

We have Designers Guild fabric and wallpaper books in the showroom, so if you haven’t looked through the collections in a while, come in and see what’s new.

Choosing colours for a room can be tricky, especially when you’re looking at them individually.

Put a few fabrics together though, and things start to get interesting. Colours you might never have considered can suddenly work, while the one you were certain about might end up being the first to go.

That’s one of the reasons we still love working with fabric books and samples. You can put different colours and textures side by side, move things around and take your time with them.

If you’re looking for ideas, call into the showroom and have a browse through the collections. You never quite know what you’ll end up choosing.

There’s a reason William Morris designs are still being used more than 150 years after they were first created.

The patterns are unmistakable. Detailed botanicals, trailing leaves, flowers and birds, all heavily influenced by the natural world. And yet, despite their history, they continue to work beautifully in both traditional and more contemporary interiors.

Morris & Co. regularly revisits the archive, introducing familiar designs in new colourways and scales across fabrics and wallpapers. It’s always interesting to see how different a well-known pattern can feel simply through a change of colour.

We have an extensive selection of Morris & Co. books in the showroom if you’d like to come in and have a look.

We're open tomorrow from 9:30 (closed 1-2 for lunch).

Not every fabric needs a pattern to be interesting.
Texture adds depth without demanding attention; particularly when you're working with a quieter or more neutral palette. It's also one of those things that's almost impossible to judge properly on a screen.

Run your hand across the samples. Hold them together. Move them into the light.
Sometimes that's when a scheme suddenly starts to make sense.

Our fabric library is here to be explored and experienced.

You don't need to have the whole room figured out.

Sometimes the best schemes begin with just one thing you really love.

A fabric.
A wallpaper.
An unexpected colour.
A pattern you keep coming back to.

Start there.

Pull out a few coordinating fabrics. Add a contrasting texture. Try the colour you weren't sure about.

Our design library is quite roomy and up to date. There's plenty of room to spread out samples, compare collections and see what works together.

Come with a complete plan or just come with that one thing you love.

We'll help if you want us to. And if you'd rather browse and experiment yourself, that's absolutely fine too.
