After a full inspection, we replaced the complete pivot and closing system, including:

🔨 CASE STUDY | Upgrading Cedar Timber Windows Instead of Replacing Them

In this project, we upgraded an older cedar timber window by replacing the original thin single glazing with a 24 mm double-glazed, argon-filled, energy-efficient unit.

This wasn't a simple glass replacement.

This PVC utility door looked ready for replacement.

The opening sash was badly broken, the frame section had separated, and the panel was loose.

Instead of replacing the full door, we rebuilt and reinforced the damaged section using timber support, screws and metal repair plates.

Then we refitted the original panel and installed a new wedge glazing seal to hold it firmly against the glazing beads.

The result: the door is working properly again, looks much better, and the customer saved a lot of money.

Not every damaged PVC door needs full replacement.

CASE STUDY: Draughty Windows Fixed with a Full Seal Upgrade

The customer contacted us because cold air was coming through the windows and doors.

This is one of the most common problems we see in Galway homes: the window or door still works, the hinges are fine, the frame is good — but the old seals are worn, flat, tired or no longer creating proper compression between the opener and the frame.

For this property, we carried out a full Windows and Doors Upgrade.

We replaced the seals on all windows and doors throughout the home, and the difference was immediately visible.

In this video, you can see one window up close. We show the old seal and then the new seal we installed. The new seal creates a much tighter contact between the opener and the frame, helping to stop cold air from passing through the gap and improving comfort inside the home.

We also checked the hinges. They were still in very good condition, so there was no need to replace them. We only upgraded the fixings from screws to rivets, which is a better long-term solution for aluminium hinges and gives a stronger, cleaner and more secure finish.

This is exactly what we mean by a proper upgrade — not replacing parts that do not need replacing, but improving the parts that actually make the difference.

CASE STUDY: Aluminium Window Drainage System Repair 💧

The customer contacted us because water was leaking heavily around an aluminium window — both outside and inside.

During our inspection, we found the real issue: the window drainage system had been sealed with silicone.

The drainage holes were completely blocked. There was so much silicone inside the drainage channel that the water had no way to escape.

In this video, you can clearly see the blocked drainage openings and why the window could not release water properly.

We removed the blockage, freed the drainage system, and replaced the gasket on the glazing beads to help prevent water from getting into the wrong area again.

Then we tested the repair with a bottle of water.

The result?
The water now runs through the drainage system and exits properly — exactly how the window was designed to work.

This is why a proper inspection matters. A leaking aluminium window does not always mean the full window needs to be replaced. Sometimes the problem is a blocked drainage channel, failed gasket, or previous poor sealing work.
