Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and one of the most sacred moments in the Celtic calendar ☀️

A moment not just of abundance but of renewal. A time of celebration, of gratitude for the light.

In that spirit, we say fáilte. Welcome to the longest day.

Fáilte is the 4th and final piece in our brand new ciúb collection. Shaped in the lettering Percy Metcalfe designed for the first coins of the Irish Free State, each ciúb piece arrives in its own slide-open presentation box, ready to give or to keep.

Few phrases carry more weight this week than this old Irish proverb.

Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí ~ Praise the young and they will flourish.

This Sunday is Father's Day and this week, thousands of young people across Ireland sit their last Leaving Cert exam. The proverb speaks to every parent who has watched a child work hard and believed in them quietly, and to every student who needed that belief to keep going.
Hand finished in cast iron and set in a limed white frame, it is a piece made to last, just like the encouragement it carries.

Wild Goose has always been on the wall. Not anymore.
Introducing ciúb ~ a new collection of small bronze pieces from the Studio, designed to live on a shelf, a desk or a mantelpiece.

The collection came about through a collaboration with print students at NCAD, and every piece is hand-carved by Adam at our Studio in Kinsale. And the lettering has a story worth knowing…
In 1926, Percy Metcalfe won a competition, overseen by W.B. Yeats, to design the first coins of the Irish Free State. His distinctive lettering and animals, known as the Barnyard Collection, stayed in Irish pockets until 1971. That same lettering is now cast in cold-cast bronze, each piece measuring 4cm × 4.5cm and arriving in a slide-open presentation box with an individual slot for every piece in the set.

Witness the skill. Each of our original carvings are meticulously worked by hand, tool by tool, line by line. What you see here will eventually become the master piece, used to make the mould. But first, it has to be perfect.

At the heart of every Wild Goose piece is the carving. Adam at his bench in our Kinsale studio, surrounded by reference images and sketches that guide every cut. It's quiet, considered work, and it's been done this way since 1970.
