Most of these only get noticed after the kitchen is fitted. Save this before you finalise anything.
Never use standard fixed shelves inside a tall larder unit. Always fit internal pull out drawers so the food comes directly out to you.
Never leave a giant empty cavern under the sink and call it storage. Fit a U shaped drawer carefully around the existing plumbing.
Never stack heavy cast iron pans inside each other in a single cupboard. Give every heavy item its own dedicated drawer with proper access.
Never split your fridge and ovens onto opposite sides of the kitchen. Always bank your tall appliances together in one continuous run.
Never cut your island worktop completely flush with the cabinet doors beneath it. Always leave a slight overhang to protect the units below.
Never force your sink to sit perfectly centred on a window if doing so ruins your available counter space on either side.
Never specify two large single ovens unless you genuinely cook at that volume regularly. They consume too much cabinet space for most households. One main oven paired with one compact combi microwave gives you everything you actually need.
Never leave your toaster and coffee machine permanently on the main counter. Hide them completely inside a dedicated bi fold breakfast pantry where they stay plugged in and ready.
