McCarthy Stoneworks Stonehouse Nameplates

A family memorial may need attention over time, whether that means adding a new inscription, renewing faded gold lettering or carefully cleaning and restoring the stone.

At McCarthy Stoneworks, we approach this work with respect for the original memorial. Where possible, new lettering is matched to the existing inscription to create a natural and consistent finish.

We provide additional inscriptions and memorial renovation services throughout Cork. Contact us if you would like advice or an assessment.

Arranging a headstone can involve more than choosing the stone, design and inscription. Cemetery permission may also be required before work can begin.

As an annually approved Cork City Council memorial contractor, McCarthy Stoneworks can manage the necessary application on behalf of your family and guide you through each stage with care.

Appointments are available at our Donnybrook showroom to discuss designs, materials, lettering and cemetery requirements without pressure.

This Kilkenny limestone headstone is anything but ordinary. The face has been carefully bush hammered to create a textured finish, while the inscription is bold, large, and entirely hand carved — giving it a timeless, deeply personal character.

Before a single letter was cut, the process began with mapping the existing font. Each letterform was studied, measured to ensure consistency, spacing, and flow. Getting this stage right is everything — it guarantees that the final carving feels balanced and true to the original style.

From layout to final chisel work, every step is done by hand, right here in Cork, Ireland, respecting both the material and the memory it represents.

Craftsmanship that lasts for generations.
