Our Story

My name is Orlaith Hamersley. I am an artist living on the Copper Coast beneath the Comeragh Mountains, next to the sea in County Waterford, Ireland. Located between the thriving market town of Dungarvan and the holiday destination of Tramore, I enjoy views of the County Waterford coastline, and of the Comeragh and Knockmealdown mountains. After working as a draughtsman for many years, I settled in Bonmahon on the Copper Coast, County Waterford. Inspired by my surroundings, I rekindled my love of art. I paint what is to hand in a traditional, often expressionistic style using pencil, acrylic and watercolour. I specialise in descriptive pencil drawing, botanical and bird illustrations and greeting card design. My paintings are bright and bold, in contrast to the mechanical monochromatic nature of my pencil art.

I am fortunate to live by the ocean and a short distance from forests and the mountains in Munster. I draw shells and sea glass at the beach and pine cones on the forest floor. I enjoy drawing whelks (the common name for sea snail) whose empty shells wash up regularly on the shore. The texture, colour and spiral form is fascinating and feature in a lot of my art.

The south east of Ireland is an inspiring location and a great area for art and for Irish artists. I exhibit regularly locally, in the Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore and the Copper Coast Geopark , Bonmahon.

I have a keen interest in the crafts, particularly needle craft, I love to knit and crochet on long winters evenings, I design and handcraft luxury scarves and wraps made with the finest yarn. I am happy to offer a variety of art and craft workshops.
