The Glasshouse Stained Glass Studio

The Glasshouse Stained Glass Studio I'm Linda Mulloy and I've been running the glass studio, making stained and fused glass and teaching others, for many years. We all learn from each other.

Right now I'm interested in encouraging people, who come to learn, to make bigger pieces for themselves, with my my support. Linda Mulloy teaches glass courses throughout the year. People often come back after a couple of basic courses to make a more ambitious piece or a lampshade. Beginners are not expected to have any previous artistic or creative skills. and it's amazing how quickly people lear

n enough skills to make something of which to be proud. All courses are for beginners and improvers. Because of the small group (usually 6 or 7) you can work at your own speed, be it fast or slow. The cost of all the materials is included and you will be able to make 2 or 3 small panels during a three day course, with a larger panel on the last day.

On the workshop table, almost finished.

This is the same backsplash from the paper design a few days ago, most of the pieces down now and the shapes starting to read the way they did in the watercolour. Always a strange bit of the process, watching something go from a sketch to actual glass on the table.

Kiln's next.

If you can't make the September Fusing Glass course, there's one in November, 21st and 22nd. To book or ask a question, email [email protected] or call 087 798 1123.

This is a backsplash design before any of it was glass.

The first picture is the paper version, worked out in watercolour so I know where every colour and shape is going before I cut a single piece. The second is the same design on the studio table, now in fused glass, getting closer to the kiln.

It's a big piece and a slow one, but this is exactly the kind of thing you learn to build towards on a Fusing Glass course. You start with something much smaller, but the process is the same: plan it, cut it, lay it out, then let the kiln do its work.

I've got a Fusing Glass course running on 19 and 20 September here at the studio. To book or ask a question, email [email protected] or call 087 798 1123.

The studio is full of colour before I even pick up a tool.

Light coming through the glass, the sound of a cutter running across a sheet, the smell of solder. Outside the window, Clew Bay doing whatever it feels like that morning. Not a bad way to spend a few hours in Westport.

If you're visiting Mayo this summer and want to do something a bit different, come in and make something. Traditional leaded glass, Tiffany copper foil, or fused glass. No experience or artistic background needed. Just curiosity.

A lot of people arrive slightly nervous about cutting glass.

Then they actually use the cutter.

You're shown how to handle the glass and tools properly, and you learn by doing it at the table. Most beginners are far more worried beforehand than they need to be.

Yesterday I had a very short taster evening, teaching stained glass, with a group of 6.
They all progressed from learning how to cut glass to making a small copper foiled piece.
What application! What concentration!
Amazing work everyone!
