The only part of Irish weather we don’t talk about enough...
One of the most common things I see with client new builds is that they don’t believe the Irish sun will be “that much of a problem”
But when you’re building a home with large expanses of glass, open-plan living areas and south or west-facing windows, you soon realise that sun glare in your kitchen or living room will be an issue.
And that low-lying winter sun?
It’s actually worse than summer sun; it sits at an angle that cuts straight across a room, right into your eyes, right onto your TV screens during math day, right across your kitchen worktop.
And while we love natural light, and don’t want to block it entirely, we must control and filter it with the appropriate window dressings.
The right dressings filter glare without losing natural light, manage heat gain in summer, and keep a room feeling bright and comfortable year round.
Motorised blinds, solar blinds, sheer voiles, layered treatments, there are beautiful solutions for every space. But they need to be planned at early stages, not an afterthought.
If you’re building or renovating right now, this is the conversation to have early with your designer 🤍
And if you need expert support, we’d love to hear from you.
