Mallon Ireland

Mallon Ireland Irish bronze sculpture inspired by Celtic Legends by Irish Artist Charlie Mallon The bronze sculptures are cast in the foundry in Co Tyrone, the family home.

The collection of Irish bronze sculpture starts with Charlie Mallon the metalworker and his interest in the Celtic legends and stories that permeate Irish history. Those Ideas led to designs that draw from the symbols of Ireland's ancient past and initiated a collaboration with Irish Artists David Rooney, Clare Keys and historian Kevin Johnston. Each Mallon bronze embodies our past belief and life spirit.

Beltane is the Celtic May Day festival celebrated on the first of May; a time for welcoming the warmth of the summer sun and the imminent ripening of the crops. It falls halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.

The picture shows one of the lovely hawthorn (May) trees around here, which blossom this month. Hawthorn was of great significance to the Celts, symbolising regeneration, love and protection.

Falling between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, the Celtic festival of Imbolc marks the halfway point in the dark side of the year and welcomes the beginning of longer, brighter Spring days ahead. It’s associated with Brigid or Brigit, a goddess of health, fertility, poetry, prophecy, learning, hearth fire and smithcraft.

The Boar of Ben Gulbain.

Boars were symbols of strength and wealth to the ancient Celts. This new bronze sculpture was inspired by the legend of Diarmuid, his half-brother and the prophecy that bound them both together. Diarmuid was a formidable warrior of the Irish Fianna and he battled a great boar on the slopes of Ben Gulbain.

The hare was a sacred animal for the Celts, a symbol of abundance, prosperity and good fortune.
This new sculpture was inspired by the legend of Melangell, the patron saint of hares. She was a Celtic princess who created a place of peace and sanctuary in the Pennant Valley for animals and people in need.
