Shabbat/Weekend Home in Jerusalem's David Citadel
THE PROJECT: To create a soothing getaway space that sleeps 5 people in this small 50 sq meter studio apartment!
First of all, it was an absolute pleasure working with this lovely family from England, who now live in Jerusalem, and wanted to create a Shabbat retreat for themselves and a holiday home for their guests from abroad.
I spent a long time working on the plans for this studio, as in addition to sleeping 5 people, my goal was for the space to feel relaxing and spacious, and to include a living room, full-service kitchen, dining area, allotted workspace, bathroom, and a laundry nook (next post). I finally cracked it with the idea of high-end pull-out sofa beds, armchairs, and a coffee table ottoman. This furniture opens up with ease to comfortably sleep 5 people. Within minutes, all can be folded up to present this beautiful living room space.
No expense was spared in this project, with the kitchen, carpentry, and brass shelving features all designed meticulously and to the highest detail.
We wrapped the entire studio apartment in a soothing blue-grey textured wallpaper that creates a deep feeling of tranquility in the space. Gorgeous whitewashed herringbone floors keep the space bright, warm, and sophisticated all at once. The high-gloss birch wood closet with dark mirrored glass, which I designed, houses the studio’s storage needs, and each family member gets a door with hanging space and shelving for their belongings.
