Lexington Design סגנון העיצוב שלי משקף שילוב עכשווי וקלאסי. My name is Candice Perlin and I am an interior architect & designer.

I moved with my family from NYC to Tel Aviv about ten years ago. In contrast to the current modern trend in Israeli interior design, my sense of style reflects a more contemporary and classical mix that I can best describe as 'cozy elegance'. I incorporate rich fabrics, patterns, and sophisticated color schemes into every interior I design. Most important to me are the personal touches and details that make a house a home, and as such, I work intimately with each of my clients to create their idyllic home environment.

A complete basement renovation of a three-story villa in Bet Shemesh for a lovely family with six children and lots of guests. Aka, lots of easy-to-clean fabrics! This basement features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a home office, an arts-and-crafts corner, a family room, a laundry area, and tons of custom carpentry and storage solutions.

I had so much fun designing this 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom BASEMENT in Bet Shemesh. When you give a basement as much love as the rest of your house, it becomes a seamless part of the home.

My clients, who were wonderful to work with, were eager to install a real fireplace in the custom living room built-in, but for safety reasons, it’s not permitted in the basement. So, we opted for an electric fireplace, which does the trick nicely and really cosies up the space!

To add natural light, we enlarged the existing English Terrace window in the living space, selecting beautiful, French-style windows that add an extra layer of beauty and interest, visually opening up the space.

As with all my projects, the entire space is filled with warm materials and accents, from the velvety furnishings to the wallpaper backdrops, bamboo flooring, large rugs, and ambient lighting.

We framed the office in glass with a bright blue metal frame, adding a pop of color while maintaining an open and private space.

There is an absolute ton of storage, all custom-designed, that I packed into every corner of this project, including two fridges and a washer/dryer behind the accordion doors in the hallways and a table and chairs under the deep storage below the English Terrace window.

The Before & After 🤩 of a studio apartment I recently designed in the David Citadel in Jerusalem.

We wrapped this now tranquil studio apartment in a soothing blue-grey textured wallpaper that creates a deep feeling of tranquility in the space. Gorgeous whitewashed herringbone floors keep the space bright, warm, and sophisticated all at once.

Ambient Lighting sets the tone. Detailed custom designed carpentry and brass shelving add the chic factor.
The high-gloss birch wood closet with dark mirrored glass and a work station was custom designed to house the studio’s storage needs, and each family member gets a door with hanging space and shelving for their belongings.

Shabbat/Weekend Home in Jerusalem's David Citadel

THE PROJECT: To create a soothing getaway space that sleeps 5 people in this small 50 sq meter studio apartment!

First of all, it was an absolute pleasure working with this lovely family from England, who now live in Jerusalem, and wanted to create a Shabbat retreat for themselves and a holiday home for their guests from abroad.

I spent a long time working on the plans for this studio, as in addition to sleeping 5 people, my goal was for the space to feel relaxing and spacious, and to include a living room, full-service kitchen, dining area, allotted workspace, bathroom, and a laundry nook (next post). I finally cracked it with the idea of high-end pull-out sofa beds, armchairs, and a coffee table ottoman. This furniture opens up with ease to comfortably sleep 5 people. Within minutes, all can be folded up to present this beautiful living room space.

No expense was spared in this project, with the kitchen, carpentry, and brass shelving features all designed meticulously and to the highest detail.

Basel, Tel Aviv Dining Room & Reading Nook Makeover - BEFORE & AFTER
Lexington Design - Candice Slowik Perlin - Interior Designer

This tired space needed some love, some color, and some closed storage! By stretching the small column on the right by an additional 20cm, we were able to niche in a gorgeous custom-built-in, creating much-needed floor-to-ceiling storage.

On the left-hand side, a niche with a small desk piled with items is filtered and relocated to the new right-hand storage, creating space for a tranquil reading nook by the window. This custom piece also houses storage both above and below the chaise. Plush, ANGLED seating allows for the perfect resting and reading position.

The dining room gets an elegant makeover with, as my client’s daughter said, “swimming pool wallpaper!” and ambient lighting.

Neglected Basement Space Turned FAMILY STUDY - Before & After, Herzliya

Transient areas are some of the trickiest places to work with. Though they inevitably offer a sense of spaciousness, assigning them a purpose often requires some clever thinking.

In this renovation, we took a transient, unused basement space located between the staircase and the TV room and converted it into a Family Study filled with light thanks to the addition of a beautiful French-style glass door (pic to follow).

I custom-designed this extra-wide desk to house storage on both sides, providing a beautiful facade while passing through. It sits front and center in the room, the computer screen facing the wall, giving its user privacy.

Transient Space made beautiful and purposeful!

Hi Everyone,
A fun Before & After.

My clients DID NOT want to buy a whole new kitchen so we opted to change only the cabinet fronts, and that did the trick, creating the illusion of a brand new kitchen on a third of the budget.

Adding color and warm materials through wallpaper, teak flooring, and ambient lighting was all that was needed to transform this kitchen into an inviting space.

Happy to answer questions and give referalls of excellent professionals, as always.

Have a good week!

Magnificent Malaga. Hi Everyone! Wanted to share some photos from my summer vacay. Spending some time in Malaga, Spain this summer was such a treat. Its downtown area is packed with amazing architecture, from grand old churches to narrow streets lined with bright facades and ornate balconies. The mix of old and new is what makes it so inspiring.

You can see Spanish, Moorish, and Renaissance influences all side by side, giving the city a unique personality. For me, it's a great example of how layering different styles can create something so special in design ❤️

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Casual Elegance - Dining in Style 🍴
Candice Slowik Perlin - Interior Designer

An open-plan dining and living room I recently designed (living room to be posted later).

We went for a relaxed setting in this open-plan space. Elegant pendant lights offer a gentle glow, perfect for dining. The rich wood-framed, French-style mirrors reflect the outdoors and the living room opposite, opening up the space and adding warmth and interest at the same time.

Velvety navy curtains beautifully contrast the monochrome beiges and creams around the room.

Pocket doors open straight onto the patio, allowing for al fresco dining with no obstruction. Just clean, beautiful lines.

A perfectly relaxed and warm setting for dining and entertaining. Bon Appétit!

Guest Bathroom Makeover! Ra'anana רעננה 🧼

We transformed this tiny space into a slightly larger space, packed with great energy and style. Pushing out the back shower wall added a now very comfortable shower area. We switched out the frosted glass for clear glass, visually doubling the feeling of spaciousness.

Regal navy custom cabinetry, adorned with copper hardware, gives the room its wow factor. The floral floors add fun and depth to the space. Night and Day! My client’s guests have been raving to her about the upgrades. Always fun to feel like a special guest ❤️

LIGHTING TIP

If you have transitioned completely to LED bulbs you may have realized the hard way that the warmth and tone of equivalent lightbulbs varies greatly from company to company. This can be very frustrating!

If you love warm, yellow lighting like I do, Eurolux bulbs are my strong recommendation. 2700 Kelvin provides the most pleasant shade, not too orange. Anything lower than 2700 becomes more orange while the higher numbers gradually give whiter lighting. Stick with 2700-3000 for warm lighting. They offer dimmable options. Philips offers nice options too.

If you prefer a whiter light, Nisko has pretty good quality bulbs. Again, I recommend staying within 2700-3000 Kelvin. They also have dimmable options.

Sharing as I have tried so many of the lightbulbs for my clients and for my own home and have been frustrated and bought countless lightbulbs I will never use!!

Happy Lighting Shopping 😀
