עבודה חדשה וכרגיל מקסימה מאת יוליה ברודסקי🐦 ❤️
A little a bit about my design process in relation to this Yin Yang Hummingbird creation 🌈
I started with the Yin Yang symbol and searched for reference images of hummingbirds in different positions and angles. At first I planned to follow the Yin Yang halves precisely and fit the birds inside — similar to an earlier piece with koi fish. But I quickly realised that to do this I would have to position the lower hummingbird upside down, which felt completely wrong.
So I changed the plan and stopped forcing the birds inside the symbol. Instead, I allowed them more freedom and placed them more in front of the Yin Yang. The spread of the wings helped balance the composition and made it feel more dynamic rather than confined by the circle.
Another important design choice was placing the birds in different positions, which allowed me to differentiate them through colour. In the top bird, the wings are spread wide so we see the warmer inner tones, whereas the lower bird shows more of the cooler outer side. This variety in colour and position creates visual interest and invites the viewer’s eye to move across the whole composition.
The final touch was adding the ge**er daisy in the lower part of the symbol. Originally, I had sketched a sun there, but halfway through the process my client suggested honouring a family member who loved these flowers. I rarely agree to last-minute changes once I’ve started, but the timing was just right — I had completed the outlines and begun the birds, but hadn’t filled the inside of the symbol yet. Because the reason was so personal, I paused and reworked the sketch.
I’m really happy with how it turned out — now it feels like the daisy was always meant to be there. It also shows how even small design choices, like using three subtly different tones in the petals instead of one, can make all the difference🌸
