പഞ്ചിനെ കുറിച്ച് പരിചയമില്ലാത്തവർക്ക് — അവൻ ജപ്പാനിലെ ഒരു കുഞ്ഞ് കുരങ്ങാണ്. ജനിച്ചതിന് പിന്നാലെ അവന്റെ അമ്മ അവനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു. അതിന് ശേഷം, സൂ ജീവനക്കാർ അവനെ കൈയിൽ എടുത്ത് വളർത്തുകയും, കൈകൊണ്ട് ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുത്ത് അവന്റെ ജീവൻ രക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
