Proposal-Worthy Caramelized Halloumi With Fig Drizzle đâ¨
Ingredients:
14 oz halloumi cheese (400 g), cut into 1/2-inch (1.25 cm) thick slices
2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
2 tablespoons pomegranate molasses (30 ml)
2 tablespoons honey (40 ml)
1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (15 ml)
1/4 cup pistachios (35 g), chopped
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds (45 g)
2 fresh figs (3 oz/85 g), quartered
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves (3 g), torn
1 tablespoon fresh basil leaves (3 g), torn
Zest of 1 lemon (2 g)
1 teaspoon sumac (3 g)
1/4 teaspoon Aleppo pepper flakes (0.5 g)
1 clove garlic, minced (0.15 oz/4 g)
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling (15 ml)
Directions:
1. Pat the halloumi slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
2. In a small bowl, mix together minced garlic, pomegranate molasses, honey, and balsamic glaze.
3. Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Add the halloumi slices and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
5. Pour the pomegranate-honey mixture over the halloumi and cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to caramelize slightly.
6. Transfer the halloumi to a serving platter, arranging the slices in an overlapping pattern.
7. Drizzle any remaining sauce from the pan over the halloumi.
8. Scatter pomegranate seeds, chopped pistachios, and fig quarters around and over the halloumi.
9. Sprinkle with sumac, Aleppo pepper flakes, and lemon zest.
10. Garnish with torn mint and basil leaves.
11. Finish with a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
12. Serve immediately while still warm.
