Savitri, d woman who challenged n changed her fate.
Savitri ws d only child of her father who was a king. She was the most beautiful and intelligent girl of her time. When it came time for her marriage, she had no suited groom because all d men around her were intimidated by her beauty n her sharp mind. Then her father asked her to search her own life partner.
In this process, she fell in love wid Satyavan, a prince whose father had been lost his kingdom and living in poverty in the forest.
Savitri’s father opposed this marriage not only bcoz Satyavan ws poor but also he ws destined to die widin a year of marriage.
Despite of all odds, Savitri had chosen to marry Satyavan with great will power and positivity.
After a year of happy married life at d appointed hour, Yama, d god of death appeared and took Satyavan’s soul with him, but Savitri followed him n refused 2 go back without satyavan, so yama offered her four boons one by one, so that she would go back, “Anything except d life of her husband.”
Savitri asked 2 boons for her father-in-law and one for her father and as last boon, she asked to be a mother of Satyavan’s 100 sons. After granting all four boons, Yamraj realised that he had granted her the last boon wrongly. As custodian of d laws of karma, his boons had to be realized. The only way for Savitri to bear Satyavan’s children ws to make Satyavan alive again n so it happened.
We are told 2 believe that Yama gave Satyavan's life back only bcoz Savitri ws so devoted, she ws willing to follow her husband even in to yamlok. This single wifely virtue made her husband alive again.
But as scripture said from the beginning, Savitri ws d most unusual woman of her time, she ws not only beautiful, learned, determined but also independent, strong-minded n fearless.
She challenged her fate n chose 2 follow her mind n heart n as a result defeated d devta of death wid her arguments n cleverly worded boon — it is her iron will, her intellect n her quick wit that Yama honoured n gave Satyavan back.
