We love this Ikat fabric with a maroon and navy diamond print, chosen by the client’s son. This one was so different from the other rooms in the house which were all floral prints and embroideries. We extended this fabric as a border for the skylight window as well for a cohesive look. The fold of the blind has also been kept to a minimum to allow maximum sunlight when opened.

The occupant of this room was a granny who spends most of her time here and hence she wanted it to be cheerful and pleasing to the eyes. She chose this very calm blue with a floral print for her room and was immensely happy how it turned out to be. We were pleasantly surprised with her choice of colour and it most definitely uplifted the whole environment.

Blinds are a great choice for corner windows like these where accessibility can be difficult. They also occupy the least amount of volume when it comes to window coverings. Hanging here like a painting of a blue bed of flowers😍

Breathe in new life in your old sofa! Renewing your old sofa is one of the ways to redo your living room/ change in colour, pattern not only changes the whole look of the room, it also, helps in better posture, as over the years the seating and foam would have sagged and not giving the kind of support required for our bodies.
This is also one of ways to live more sustainably, reusing and recycling is the need of the hour for ourselves and for our future generations.

Family room – This room needed a makeover. The client spends all day in this room which doubles up as the home office for her. And it definitely needed to be cheery.
It had a 10-year-old green sofa and curtains which needed a revamp.
The first step was to re-upholster the sofa with a royal blue spill proof performance fabric. As it was pretty old, we changed the inside foam as well to give the right firmness.
For the cushions, we used an abstract geometrical pattern in white and blue with blue piping.
With this we used with a beautiful floral print with pops of blue for the curtain to complete the look.

A muted floral print for the master bedroom. Floral prints were something that the client was gravitating towards and we could see why. She had a gorgeous yard and flowers planted everywhere. And she rightly chose florals for almost all her curtains.
The client didn’t want anything too bright in this room and wanted to keep it subtle. This fabric matched sensibilities for both husband and wife and kept the room in the neutral zone while still make it look pleasing.

A beautiful Embroidered fabric in yellow and muted green on a natural linen color base. The living had a beautiful ornate sofa and brass artefacts with a lot of woodwork. This fabric helped in maintaining the formal and traditional look of the room and goes well with dark wood furniture, elevated with the pretty embroidery and muted colors. We used brass finish for the rods and rings to bring together the brass accents already part of the room.
The Living and Dining room were in one view and hence the same fabric was chosen for both the rooms to give a sense of continuity and follow the same design language.

Our Story

Aalayam is a Sanskrit word meaning 'abode or home'. Named after the space we love the most, we hope to be a key contributor to making homes beautiful. The idea came about when one of the founders were looking for customised curtains for her own house and was faced with a lot of challenges. When she realised how hard it was to find the right design partner for good customised curtains and blinds, she knew she had stumbled on a market gap. She pitched the idea to a friend which was then followed by a year of research and planning before they decided to quit their full-time jobs to build the brand.

Aalayam studio is a bespoke soft furnishings design company that makes made to measure curtains, blinds & wallpapers. All orders are custom made which means a lot of attention goes into each order that we receive. All the materials are hand selected and sourced from quality fabric manufacturers. Each project starts with curated fabrics followed by personalised designs and finally ex*****on which is closely monitored until handover.
