Thirupagam 🍨
(Special sweet on occasion of Skanda Shashti)

The term “Kanda Shashti Natkal” refers to the six-day festival of Skanda Shashti, which is celebrated to honor Lord Murugan (also known as Skanda or Kartikeya). “Kanda” is a name for Lord Murugan, and “Shashti” means the sixth day of a lunar fortnight. “Natkal” is the Tamil word for “days.”

Thirupagam is a South Indian traditional sweet from the Tirunelveli region, made with gram flour (besan), cashew powder, sugar, milk, and ghee. It is known for its melt-in-your-mouth texture and is often served as an offering (prasadam) during festivals, particularly for Lord Murugan, and at weddings. Its taste is a unique combination of Mysore Pak and besan halwa.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup gram flour / Besan
- 1 cup cashew nuts, powdered
- 2 cups milk (boiled and cooled)
- 2 cups sugar
- 8-10 strands saffron
- Cardamom powder, a pinch
- 1/2 cup ghee
