According to Hindu legend, the Mahabharata was composed through a unique pact between Sage Vyasa and Lord Ganesha in a cave near Badrinath. Ganesha agreed to scribe the epic on the condition that Vyasa dictate without pause, to which Vyasa countered that Ganesha must fully comprehend every verse before writing it down. To manage this, Vyasa composed complex stanzas that forced Ganesha to pause and contemplate, giving the sage time to formulate the next verses. During this intense process, Ganesha’s stylus reportedly broke, leading him to snap off his own tusk to continue writing without interruption—a sacrifice that symbolises the perfect union of divine wisdom and tireless intellect.

Neata Pinto’s practice explores narrative, memory, and the fluid nature of the self through intricate, detail-driven compositions.

Working with pen and ink, acrylic, and mixed media, she transforms the stories she encounters into a personal visual language. Drapery and symbolic objects recur throughout her work, anchoring each piece in quiet introspection while translating external experiences into intimate, layered reflections.
