"The (Un)Inherited Heritage of Chennai"
The essence of Chennai is one that truly lies in its past. The golden thread that connects Chennai to its people, is its past, which is symbolized by its rich culture and heritage. But that golden thread breaks somewhere in between, cutting the generational story short. This golden thread is challenged by time, and most of all, a certain lack of knowledge. This lack of understanding prevents the coming generations from keeping the golden heritage thread intact and hence remains broken. This artwork is made keeping three generations as a reference – The generation of my age, the generation before, and the generation much before.
The heritage I never experienced, was experienced by the two previous generations and so on. But the heritage that the three generations never experienced remains in inherited memories.
What of the future generation? What
part of heritage will they experience?

"The (Un)Inherited Heritage of Chennai" accompanied by two "Kanneer Anjali" posters (Sketched using Pigment liners and watercolour) for heritage buildings that were razed down recently. Through this artwork, I aim to ask the viewers "What is heritage? Is it only so because it has stood for various years, or sparked a generational shift that is continuing?" I believe heritage is a golden thread that connects the people to the city's past, and the thread is denoted by faint, broken golden lines in the artwork.
