Top 5 tips to get the best from your Interior designer and contractors.
1. Never bargain for a lowest budget and ask for quality output( so how to know the quality? Will explain in next post):
The main reason why a client should avoid this tactics is:
A. You will end loosing talented designers who can do wonders for you.
B. You might get a contractor or designer for your bargain rate but they will not give their best to you. Some contractors might even compromise on quality which you never know. Because no one can give a Benz car for an Autorickshaw rate.
C. Your disrespect and demanding nature from a contractor or designer will lead to no back up support or service from them.
Finally, please remember this is also a form of bullying done to a person.
2. Avoid unprofessional and unethical postmortem analysis of your contractors/designers job:
Never use the cheap tactics of blaming your contractors quality work after few months or years by mishandling the products delivered to you. It might work for one time or two. But if you plan to extract work by lying to your contractor, you might end up losing genuine back up service. After all who likes to hear complaints from clients for no mistake of theirs. So they will start avoiding your calls and brand you as a nagging client.
3. Once you settle down for a contractor or designer of your choice, believe in your choice first. Trust really builds a long-lasting relationship. It's only wise to resolve any issue amicably instead of immature blame games. You can be rest assured that you can extract work only when interior or civil labourers are patted on their back and encouraged. Good words will help you get things done more smoothly than trying to escalate issues with labourers. A contractor or designer does all this for you. So better to respect their profession and not get into labour management by yourself. If you trespass the agreement and talk to labourers, this is a sure shot red beep for a contractor in his mind and the contractor will silently drop his support for you.
4. Never play one against the other in a contractors team.
It might seem to work initially. But when they discover that you used a cheap method to get things done your way beyond the contract /agreement, you are sure to lose a good contractor/designer forever.
5. Always always always take time to write a solid contract with all the detailed material specifications.
Once you do this methodically and start the implementation, for your own good, it's best to avoid messing up the decisions made in the contract. Let the contractor come and ask for a change due to non availability of an item or so... But as a golden rule avoid changing designs and raw materials and quality agreed upon for each item. Because they may say yes to you and make up for the loss elsewhere. Why take such risks? It's better not to be too greedy or fickle minded in such cases. This will save loads and loads of heart burns for all humans involved. Never try to act smart as if you know about every work involved in a contractors job. Even if you know, let us understand that we have decided to hire someone as a designer or contractor for lack of time, and effort in that work.
True. They are service providers. But there is no free lunch for any. Then why crib about their earnings in this deal? What is their profit percent, is none of our business. Whether they provide good service and for the quality you asked for is all that matters.
Having said these tips, please remember that cheats are there in every business. Bullying clients are there in every field. Even branded companies cheat and white collared professionals treat the genuine business men badly. So let us just ensure that we are not terrible bullying client or cheating businessmen. Best wishes in your journey to find your right interior contractor/interior designer.
