✨ Maple & Malli – A Custom Tanjore Creation for an Indo-Canadian Wedding ✨

Sharing today a specially crafted Tanjore-inspired article we created for an Indo-Canadian wedding.

The theme, "Maple & Malli," was so beautifully coined by the bride's creative mother and my dear friend, Vaish. Every little detail of the wedding was thoughtfully curated, and we at Chaya Gallery had the wonderful opportunity to create a custom-made Paruppu Thengai Koodu (auspicious sweet cones) to complement the celebration.

For those unfamiliar with this beautiful South Indian tradition, Paruppu Thengai Koodu consists of a pair of ceremonial sweet cones made from roasted gram, jaggery, ghee, and cardamom. The mixture is pressed into cone-shaped moulds and decorated for weddings and other auspicious occasions.

In traditional weddings, these twin cones symbolize the coming together of two families and carry wishes for a life filled with sweetness, happiness, prosperity, and goodwill.

To reflect the unique Indo-Canadian theme, we adorned the cones with the iconic Canadian Maple Leaf in pure 22-carat gold foil work and paired it with the delicate Malli (Jasmine) flower rendered in white relief work. The result was a beautiful blend of two cultures, celebrating heritage, family, and new beginnings.

What I love most about projects like these is how tradition continues to evolve while retaining its essence. Much like a Tanjore painting, the Paruppu Thengai is a wonderful example of how everyday ceremonial objects can carry deep cultural, spiritual, and emotional significance. It is always a privilege to create pieces that become a small part of a family's most cherished memories.

Mount Kailash has long been revered as a symbol of divinity, peace and spiritual शक्ति — believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and a place that inspires devotion beyond words.

This bespoke 18x24 Tanjore painting was created for a wonderful client who has had the blessing of visiting Kailash several times. She was very particular that the painting capture the ethereal golden glow and spiritual aura she experienced there — and recreating that sacred essence became the heart of this artwork. Crafted with rich traditional Tanjore techniques, layered textures and luminous gold detailing, this piece beautifully reflects the grandeur and serenity of Kailash.

Today, this unique artwork adorns her elegant home in Alwarpet, Chennai — serving as a constant reminder of faith, devotion and cherished memories of her spiritual journeys. ✨
